Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept at Los Angeles Auto Show

Aston Martin Cygnet fans eat your heart out. Cadillac has just unveiled its ultra-cool new concept at the Los Angles Auto Show. Called the Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept, it uses a similar design language to the Cadillac CTS-V, only more radical. There's even hints of Gallardo aesthetics in the door line and door operation.

The car is slightly longer (at 3.8m) and slightly wider (at 1.7m) than a Mini Cooper, while still showcasing four seats. Headroom wouldn't be too bad either thanks to its overall height of 1.5m. And with Lamborghini-style scissor doors, it'd be easy to get out of when parked in a tight spot.

Underneath the bonnet there's a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine which is supported by hybrid technology. It also features a stop/start function, regenerative braking and a dual-clutch transmission. Cadillac says the car is capable of offering fuel consumption of 4.2L/100km in the city and 3.6L/100km out on the highway.

Inside, there's more stylish and modern shapes and features. The dash is not simply splattered in an array of buttons and controls; it's very minimalist in layout. The seats look like they come straight from a roller coaster ride themed on space travel, while the dashboard incorporates a giant 'S' into its design that runs behind the steering wheel and onto the driver's door trim.

Cadillac ULC leading designer, Frank Saucedo, spoke about the car recently, saying:

"It may not look like Cadillacs on the road today, but it shares the comfortable and high-tech elements that owners have come to associate with larger, traditional luxury sedans. As more customers demand premium features even in smaller vehicles, a vehicle like the Urban Luxury Concept could be a solution."

Of course, this is just a concept at this stage, but it is said to be a hint of what to expect from the company in the near future. We hope they make this, and can only hope it comes to Australia at some point.
