2011 Ford Focus Electric to be launched in US markets

Ford has announced the 19 initial markets for the launch of the new Ford Focus Electric. The regions were selected based on existing trends and sales of current electric and hybrid vehicles.

Ford Motor Company US says the car will go on sale in Atlanta; Houston and Austin, Texas; Boston; Chicago; Denver; Detroit; Los Angeles; San Francisco; San Diego; New York; Orlando; Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona; Portland, Oregon; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; Seattle; and Washington.

The new car is based on the petrol version of the Ford Focus and will even be built in the same Michigan-based Ford assembly plant where the fuel versions of the Focus are made.

Ford says the vehicle will offer a range of up to 160km on a single charge and will go on sale towards the end of 2011. No word yet as to whether the Focus Electric will eventually become available here in Australia.
