2011 Ford Mondeo MC pricing, launch details announced

By Tim Beissmann |

Ford Australia has revealed the pricing and launch details of its 2011 Ford Mondeo range, with improvements to safety features, standard equipment and styling leading to increases of between $450 and $750 across the model variants.

The new MC Mondeo will begin arriving in Ford dealerships around the country this week, with the LX and Zetec models to lead the charge.

The Titanium hatch will follow next month while the Titanium wagon will complete the model refresh in January 2011.

The MB Titanium models will continue to be sold in Australia at their current prices until the MC variants arrive.

As detailed in September, all variants in the updated Mondeo range score redesigned bonnets, tailgates, bumpers, grilles and taillights, as well as glass-mounted antennas, passenger seat lumbar support and a new satin black audio surround.

The range-topping Titanium TDCi benefits from a raft of new driver assist safety features, including driver alert, lane departure warning, adjustable speed limiting device and automatic high-beam headlamps, while both Titanium models also get blind spot information system, LED daytime running lights and an updated Human Machine Interface system.

The two four-cylinder engines from the current MB Mondeo will carry over unchanged. Output from the 2.3-litre petrol unit sits at 118kW of power and 208Nm of torque, while the TDCi engine – teamed with the six-speed Powershift automatic transmission – produces 120kW and 340Nm.

Combined cycle fuel consumption for the petrol models is 9.5 litres/100km while the diesel returns figures as low as 5.9 litres/100km in the LX hatch (6.2 litres/100km for other TDCi models).

Ford of Europe’s decision to discontinue the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine for the XR5 will mean that the flagship nameplate will not be part of the updated model range.

Pricing for the 2011 Ford MC Mondeo*:

-       2.3-litre petrol LX – $30,990

-       2.0-litre turbo diesel LX TDCi – $34,990

C’mon Ford, it’s time to put the ecoBoost 2.0litre in the Mondeo. Don’t worry about it stealing the thunder off the Falcon, nobody buys mondeos anyway.

    • Gene

This is exactly why we don’t get the Ecoboost Mondeo yet.

  • Andronicus

I really love this Mondeo and think it is extremely underrated and under appreciated.

  • Shak

So how much is the Titanium going up in price by, if its getting all that techno-wizardry. Some of that stuff isnt even found in the high end German large sedans yet.

      Shak

Titanium models will increase by $750, Zetecs up $500, and LXs up $450.

Wow, that has to be one of the best value mid-sizers in the Australian market. if only it had the 2.5, i may have considered it.

        • Stoney!

I agree, a half decent engine would make the hatch worth it, the wagon looks like ass!

          Stoney!

          • Stoney!

Still prefer the 1.8t Superb over this though for the engine amongst other reasons.

            Stoney!

          • Duckula

Yeah I agree, nice enough car, but that 2.3 is just so Meh!…. its not about power either, its just Meh….so hard to explain. Makes me miss my old TX5 from the mid 90′s with the 2.5L V6 – tiny but awesome ( for its day
            ) IMO.

“Some of that stuff isnt even found in the high end German large sedans yet.”

What features are you talking about?

      • Shak

Well for example the recently updated 5 and E-Class dont have: including driver alert, lane departure warning, adjustable speed limiting device and automatic high-beam headlamps, while both Titanium models also get blind spot information system. These are either options or they just dont come on the Germans. Fair enough they have some of their own unique features, but when a car that costs less than half the price of an entry level large German has much more equipment, then thats just embarrassing.

  • Mark

Im definately considering the Titanium when it comes out.
Would be damn nice with the ecoboost, even better wack the xr6 turbo motor in it.

    • nickdl

I don’t think a front-wheel-drive car would be so nice with the XR6 Turbo engine in it!

      • Mark

make an awd version.Or use that system thats in the focus rs4 thingy

        • Radbloke

I’d like to see you fit a 4.0 inline 6 under the bonnet of a Mondeo.

  • Technocrat

Human Machine interface system …. what the??? Some people really should get their hand off it…

  • davie

Is this the “new” model Mondeo that Ford have deliberately kneecapped with old engines so that the falcon doesn’t look bad in comparison?

I’m not really a Ford fan, but actually I think the Mondeo is a very competitive car. Its a shame that its not allowed to perform to 100% of its full potential.

I doubt that Ford’s competitors will also hobble their cars with old engines just to be nice to the Falcon. For example, the Mazda upcoming sky engines will make Ford look very silly indeed.

    • fishman

The diesel is the latest Peugeot donk with dual-clutch auto, and easily competes with the best engines out there…..shame its so expensive!!

  • fishman

Very surprised they haven’t absorbed this into the current pricing, given the current favourable exchange rate against the Euro.

I’d love a diesel wagon, but with an exhorbitant $4k premium for the diesel, and now these increases on top, Ford are pricing themselves out of the game…

  • laurie

Fantastic car [having the earlier TDCi] but Ford Australia thought the Mondeo will not be that popular and its turned out to be so, so out comes the knives and restrict the upgrades to the bare minimum, enough to attract new customers

    laurie

  • laurie

Oh strange price increase with where the dollar is!!

    laurie

  • laurie

opps sorry fishman did not see your comment

  • Anthony

I think the Mondeo is completely overshadowed by the Honda Accord Euro,at least locally, and it will always be an all ran model.

    • Qikturbo

The Mondeo actually rides better and gives consumers more choice in engine configurations than Honda.

  • Technocrat 2

Human Interface System – things that a human interacts with in a car – maybe like the steering wheel, the radio, or like absolutely the everything in the car. Also now comes with special double skinned steel, alloy and glass side opening emergency escape hatches – a door – what a load of crap..

    • ads

LOL you have got it so wrong. It’s called ‘HMI – Human Machine Interface’ and the name serves a purpopse. Audi call their’s ‘MMI’ and BMW’s is ‘iDrive’for example. Get over yourself mate and do some research before making yourself look like a complete tool :)

  • MeestaNob

There’s no logical reason for not allowing the Mondeo to have the best engine it can, not many people who have their heart set on a Falcon are going to think about getting the Mondeo instead. So why not just offer both consumer types the best car they can have?

Further to this, the Mondeo (across the range) trounces the Falcon for equipment and features. I wish Ford would get their act together.

    • Andrew M

Mondeo “trounces” just about everything else in this country for equipment spec and tech, so I dont see why you are trying to single the Falcon out.

Falcon is still a better car to sit in and drive. The mondeo shytes on just about everything tech and spec wise, so although it would be good for the Falcon to be specced up with all the bells too, its not like it should be hanging its head compared to the rest of whats on offer

  • David H

Just got a MB zetec tdci. Loving it so far, nice ride, leaves my old Peugeot in the shade. Heaps of cabin and load space, who needs a falcadore?

  • Lazy Toyota

Desperately needs a digital speedo and cruise like Falcon.
And more power and a better auto and nicer seats and audio controls and ergonomics.
Actually might as well just buy a Falcon.
Range on the diesel is outstanding though.

    • Andrew M

      10 thumbs up.

You just listed all the things that still make me think the Falcon isnt redundant.

I back to backed a Falcon and Mondeo when the FG first came out, and I was actually disappointed on how comfortable the Mondeo wasnt. Falcon seats leave it for dead, as well as the whole ergonomics side of things

  • Gene

I don’t understand why Ford would put all these marginally pointless electronic gizmo into the Titanium, but not xenon light which is undoubtedly the much more useful day to day feature

  • matt

the uk just got a 1.6 ecoboost in the mondeo too, that would be my pick :)

  • Greg

Beware!! After “Comparing” the Mondeo titanium to the mazda6 lux sports, after a test drive and after paying a deposit for a titanium petrol 2.3 on Saturday i have been called by the dealer on the Tuesday an told to put my hand in my pocket again for another $3500 as ford has decided not to bring a 2.3ltr engine into Australia. Therefore I need to pay up another $3500 for diesel!! Don’t do enough KM’s to warrant that spend. Not impressed Ford…was going to be the first ford i would have owned….looks like I will go with Mazda after all.

  • tippdog

I am considering the Modeo Titanium TDCI hatch over the Mazda 6 Luxury sport, any comments and thoughts would be great

Just placed deposit on a Diesel Zetec Wagon. I reckon it looks ok..yeah the rear is a bit busy but overall I like. Chose it over the Skoda Octavia as unlike the Octavia it has a flat rear floor for loading large boxes in and more cabin space. Would have preferred a Passat Wagon but they are cost prohibitive. The Honda Wagon looks atrocious and getting a bit sick of seeing Mazda 6′s so didn’t compare, but they do look a bit bland IMO.
