2012 Lamborghini LM00X SUV planned

Reports from Europe say Lamborghini is thinking of reintroducing a four-by-four into the market, codenamed the Lamborghini LM00X. It will be based on the Audi Q5 and upcoming Porsche Cajun SUV platform.

*Rendered speculation of what a Lamborghini SUV may look like

The last off-road vehicle Lamborghini developed was the military-like LM002. It was produced as a tool for the army - a kind of Italian answer to America's Hummer. It never really prospered though as it was a tad too impractical, and quite small inside. Nowadays, Lamborghini is focusing on developing a tool for the auto industry, not an imposing weapon for the Italian/German armies.

Reports say the car won't feature a screaming V12 or V10 engine either, like the original LM002, Lambo is again going for a more civilsed option and will be using the 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine the Audi S7 will get.

We can still expect supercar-like engine specifications though with speculators saying as much as 410kW could be on offer. This will help the SUV disperse 0-100km/h in less than four seconds... well, it is a Lamborghini no less.

The Lamborghini LM00X is slated to arrive in 2012.
