Piaggio NT3 Concept to take on Tata Nano

Italian scooter-maker, Piaggio, is about to launch a new three-seater micro car to rival the Tata Nano, codenamed the Piaggio NT3. It's not the first time the Italian company has designed a car either, for anyone that's been to China or India, you may recognise the Piaggio Ape trike/ute.

The Piaggio NT3 is quite a bit smaller than the Tata Nano, measuring just 2.4-metres compared to the Nano's 3.1m. That means it's really small, so small that there's only enough room for three people. It's all configured in a kind of McLaren F1-style seating arrangement with a central driver's seat.

Fuel economy? Well, that was the main criteria behind the development of this car. The Piaggio website claims the NT3 will get around 30 kilometres per litre of fuel, or 3.3L/100km. Other technical highlights include an 80km/h top speed, thanks to a 200cc petrol motor. The company has also said a 300cc hybrid could also be in the mix upon it's release.

The Piaggio NT3 will be produced specifically for markets such as India, Vietnam and South East Asia. Check out the video below for a full view of the car.
