Suzuki recall to affect just over 6000 Australian customers

By Brett Davis |

Suzuki has announced a worldwide recall which will affect 280,000 customers, although just over 6000 of those are in Australia. The recall affects the Suzuki Swift, Suzuki Swift Sport and Suzuki SX4.

It’s all down to the external rear-view mirrors. The report says the mirrors are secured onto the car by three screws. These screws are also meant to be combined with a special adhesive, except in the case of the vehicles affected, this adhesive is not present.

In the worst case scenario, the screws may become loose and the mirror will vibrate. Obviously, this is not a big deal but since it affects a decent amount of cars we thought some of you may like to know. Especially if you find the mirror on your Suzuki starts vibrating; at least now you’ll know why.

CarAdvice spoke to Andrew Ellis of Suzuki Australia who said owners of the cars will be receiving a letter in the next fortnight, advising them to take their cars to a Suzuki dealer to have the problem rectified.

Specific models are:

Most Mirrors in a swift probably vibrate cos of the DOOF DOOF stereos put in them after market – so I doubt the owners will know….

    • Mitch

New swifts have integrated stereos so you can’t change them

      • Duckula

You dont spend enough time in the western suburbs of either melb or syd to know what these kids can do to ANY stereo.. probably spending too much time driving to lawn bowls in your Camry….

  • Steve

Just because the source unit is integrated doesn’t stop you changing them. The aftermarket industry has been offering tis for years in various forms.

I have can’t find these TITS anywhere

I drive my wife’s ye olde 1988 jelly-bean swift. 1.3 carby power with 3 speed auto.

I think it needs some adhesive. I can’t think of a single thing that doesn’t rattle!.

    • Duckula

I had the old Barina/Swift 5 door with the 1.3 Carby… dodgy dodgy car… but I gotta say, it was like a freakin tardis in the back… it had more legroom than a fairlane..

      • davie

The amount of space is exactly what I noticed about the car as well!

The back seat has a simply massive amount of leg room. Its more squashy in the front than the back. I was in a fairlane taxi the other day and I also reckon my swift/barina has more room.

sure, there a no plastic hinges in globebox etc, just dodgy bendy plastic which will eventually snap and sure petrol leaks out of the dodgy fuel cap, and sure its tinny and rattles, and sure its rediculously slow. Dash lights flicker on and off and only 1 speaker works,

But somehow all the faults, make it just so easy to love.

I’ve got a friend who got a Swift, she had this issue which was a bit more serious than it seems. It made her dizzy especially when reflections came through. Not really a good thing when you’ve just got your P’s. Happily Suzuki replaced it and it’s fine now.

    • marvin

maybe she should keep her eyes on the road and stop looking in the mirror so long to get dizzy, or is she having flashbacks from the niteclub disco ball?

  • JabbaTheHutt

Like the writer says, it isn’t that big a deal. A tailshaft falling out (hilux) is a big deal but a side mirror becoming hard to use would mean common sense is applied and you get it fixed under warranty.

I am surprised that they issued a recall on this and not the EZ (current shape) Swift in 2005-2006 when they came out with a distorted rear torsion beam axle, causing premature rear tyre wear?

  • Shak

Hey at least Suzuki are coming out early even if it is such a minor problem.

  • Marie

Does this recall only for specific vin range? Cause mine is a 2008 model and my mirrors are about to fly off?
