Makes the UK built Civic Hatch look desireable at that price, a great looking car!

  • http://CarAdvice La Mercator

New average price $24,311.20. Old average price $29,677.20
Savings on offer are on average. They make it sound like you will save about $5,000.00 on a single sale.
Honda price point is the issue, who pays $19k for a 1.5?
Honda makes exceptional cars. Pricing is a little ambitious though.

    • Mythfrances

Is there a mistakeion your calculation? Most discounts are around 1K something to 2K. How can the average saving be 5k?

      • http://CarAdvice Max Power

You are not serious. Are you? Read the article again.

        • Mythfrances

Yes i am serious…it says saving up to 5k, not averqge 5k

    • Mythfrances

BTW, you can only get 1.4L Polo with 19K too.

      • bob

Actually the 1.4 Polo is $16690 manual and $19190 for DSG, putting it on Par with the 1.3 Jazz.

At similar prices to the 1.5 Jazz Polo buyers get the far superior 1.2 Turbo engine

        • PaulS

I think Jazz buyers decide so because they want utility… it’s not the best looking nor the best driving car out there, but it wins hands down in terms of luggage capacity. I think that’s why they can get away with it!

But yeah, if you want better looks and better drive, I’d go for Polo or Fiesta.

  • rocket_v6

    strong aussie dollars hoohoo

  • anthony

but factory navigation is still a 3000 dollar option!. crazy!

    • Aleks

Its pretty much the same with all Japanese manufactures, I would just say this is a Honda rip off. Have a look at how much the european cars charge for sat nav, then you will understand real rip off :D

      • Mythfrances

Yea BMW charges like 7k? As if the satellite signal is also 2 times stronger.

        • Mythfrances

Never mind the above post, I was looking at an overseas website. I got the exchange rate wrong. Its about 3k still though.

          • Aleks

Hyundai will probably be the first car company to offer such a reasonable price for sa tnav and bluetooth system, all together $1000 on the MY11 i45. Man i wish I was in the market for a new car, thats where my money would be going.

  • Amazing

    Goodbye resale for easrlier buyer

NO its not the strong dollar, prices where to high

    Market has spoken

  • anthony

nicer options coming from korea. for value… come on japan !

  • ABMPSV

I think nothing to do with strong AUD all to do with sales figures falling. Honda use to be in top 5, now just in top 10 and Korean cars getting better and cheap too.

  • Honda a lolnda

Arnt they all made in Thailand thesedays??

    • Hooda

Accord Euro is Made in Japan.

Problem with Thai built Hondas is, the factory is not actually owned by Honda!

If it was, they could have good quality control.

      • K20A

Hooda, I am afraid you have got your facts wrong here. Care to share where did you hear this from?

I can tell you for a fact that the factory in Thailand is a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co, Ltd. Japan.

In fact, Honda Thailand is the operation headquarter for the Asia Pacific region including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.

        Thanks

  • tekkyy

    i45, Swift and Optima enters
Accord Euro drops price (and presumbly Liberty to follow)

the market leaders Camry and Mazda6 are gonna be squshed if they don’t react

  • Shak

its good to see that Honda have somehow bambbozled people into believing that they are still all Jap made. All the models stated above are from Thailand(ex Civic hatch), so why dont they have thai style prices. And the Civic hatch is still way to expensive to be even a hope of selling in volume numbers in its segment. Honda; brilliant quality, brilliant drivelines, slightly cheeky prices.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=668475019 Jake Williams

      Accord Euro isn’t Thai sorry.

    • HJP

Shak, Accord Euros are manufactured in Japan but the normal Accords were manufactured in Thailand.

      • Shak

Oh sorry, i thought it was the Normal Accord above. But i stand by my comments. The majority of their line up is Thai and therefore they should be a bit cheaper.

        • nickdl

Actually the American Accord is good value, price drop or not. Very spacious inside and a lot of features. Looks better than a Camry as well IMO.

Other than that I think Honda have finally realised why they’re the only major manufacturer to have dropped in sales from last year. The rest of the models (except Accord Euro) are boring rip offs.

      • http://caradvice OSU811

Odyssey and Legend are also built in Japan as is Civic Hybrid!!

  • vrx26

Jazz and City will be more appealling if it has stability control and traction control as standard up to now Honda hasn’t even offered it as an option. Korean cars are really catching up if not surpassing some of the Jap cars

  • ethan

I have a 2008 honda civic vtil…it’s my 3rd honda and the last… had enough of honda, they are just over priced now and the quaity is no longer there… the more i drive my civic the more it feels like a half baked cookie…

  • Aleks a loosa

Are you kidding me? A Hyundai? You loosa. Get a real car.

    • jj

Actually the i45 is rather PIMP!!

cant wait to see a black one, on 20s with black tint and super low springs!!

tough as… all it needs is rwd and a v8 !

    • http://www.facebook.com/peter.zaharis Labrys

I am sure Alexs will take seriously a statement made by someone who spells loser as “loosa”.

  • Kim

IMO the Euro was a good pick before and an even better pick now.

Has good build quality, really unmatched aside from lexus – its not like the previous generation euros, i was actually surprised.

Feels comfortable but the only real negative was that it was 51k driveaway for the satnav one but now that should be like 48k or so.

Civics could be better value though, i think its a bit overpriced compared to its rivals in terms of build quality and features.

  • Vins

Honda makes good car but they are too expensive when compare to Mazda and the onslaught of the Korean brands. The maintenance cost isn’t really cheap too. Used to drive a Honda, two scheduled service a year totalled up about the same price as my current Lexus annual service cost. The Honda dealer charged me $90 a day for the loan car! While Lexus loan car is free.

    • Toyota

Lexus needs to give free loan cars when they price their cars too close to the Germans. Just look where the IS250 starts, its almost the same price as a Mercedes C200K and a BMW 320i, and considering it is now a very old model (5 years old) I think it is a bit excessive. BTW Honda loan cars are usually $33 a day, so I have a feeling that dealer you were going to was ripping you off big time.

      • Camski

They give free loan cars as part of Lexus Corp. It’s a worldwide standard that’s been set that makes it compulsory for all dealers to provide free loan cars. This is what differentiates Lexus’ service from other manufacturers/dealers service, it really is second to none.

The IS250 actually undercuts the C200K by a fair bit (6-8K difference?). Not sure about the 320i. However also take into account that the IS250 is better equiped (comparing apples to apples) than the 320i/C200K, where by you’d have to jump up to to a 325i (or if you’re willing to compromise, a 323i) to get into BMW’s 2.5 straight 6. Seems like decent value to me, the service comes as a bonus.

  • http://www.facebook.com/peter.zaharis Labrys

    Colour me interested.
I will likely be looking for a new car early next year and hadn’t thought of the Civic.
At that price it’s worth a look though.
Just checked out their website and it has some nifty features and a fair bit of kit for the price.

  • Will

Honda are dreaming! These small price reductions, on already inflated prices, are pathetic. Honda are simply replying on their brand name which used to be good. THe days when Honda was made in Japan. Who would seriously buy a City when the body is too big for the 1.5 engine? Who would buy an overpriced Jazz with all the wonderful deals you can get with Korean cars. Frankly, I’m tired of Australian car prices, they are way too high. Honda dropping prices, in some instances, to $300 is an insult to us all.

  • Porky

Good move long term, but those who have bought Honda’s in the past 6-12 months will be the unhappiest, Civic Si owners in particular. This has nothing to do with the strong Aussie dollar, its being more competitive in the market. These new prices make all previous Honda sales campaigns a joke. ACCC anyone?

  • Yonny

It’s a bit sad really, Honda used to be so good. Now they remind me a bit of Mazda in the mid-80′s – reasonable cars, nothing special, overweight and underpowered for the most part, and not particularly technically advanced.

By the way, I thought stability control was mandatory for new cars from 2011. If so, Honda had better be damn quick and add it to the Jazz.

    • Porky

MY11 Jazz is coming in the next couple of weeks

      • Jay

How do you know the MY11 Jazz is coming out in a few weeks?

        • Porky

I just do. Expect them to arrive in Nov/Dec. They have been trying to clear the Jazz this year, notice the 2 LE models and sales push on the car?

  • JEKYL & HYDE

look at fvacts.honda is going backwards when EVERYBODY else is going forward.and as statistic’s go,honda’s loss in hyundai’s gain.i can remember(not to long ago)honda euro touring for $33k drive away…

  • Reputation

People may think Honda is dreaming asking 16990 + ORC for a jazz, however I think Hyundai is dreaming a lot more asking 15,990 + ORC for an i20 5 door. I mean who wouldn’t rather pay a bit more for a Honda, Mazda or Toyota, then save under a grand and buy a Hyundai i20? Maybe Hyundai’s new slogan should be “the power of dreams”.

  • Jonno Smith

Ha Ha Ha! About time, Honda! About time! Honda’s been cruising the last few years while other car manufacturers raced past them on the overtaking lane. Hard to imagine once upon a time, Honda had innovative engineering (screaming VTEC engines; Type R’s), race-oriented suspension (double-wishbone front & rear) and beautiful styling (EG, EK Civics; Accord Euro; Integra, etc.) – Who wouldn’t push out a few thousand dollars more for a Honda?
However, times change. Performance as a selling point has died when fuel prices went up and up. These days, people consider and buy cars based on safety (air-bags, stability control) and cabin convenience (Bluetooth & iPod integration). It’s one thing to be overpriced but not to keep abreast of consumers’ requirements & to scrimp on these things – Honda has violated basic marketing principles and it’s paying for it in terms of sales. I still like Honda but feel that they should go back to their basic core competences (engineering, design and technology) and come up with something that justifies their asking premium. No point acting as if you’re Mercedes Benz when you’re not! Honda still has to compete in the sales volume market and not in the premium market like Porsche, Audi, MB or BMW!

    • Mythfrances

IN my views the Germans are also charging way too much for their cars. Totally not worth the money. But thats just my view anyway. “Rich” people think differently=D

    • Labrys

      Totally agree with you.
People look more at cabin convenience these days. I know I do. And I’m more likely to go for the brand that gives me as standard what others only add as option (i.e. bluetooth, usb input, multi disc cd player, electronic seats etc).
I now expect that once a car gets to a certain price point it should have certain things as standard and if they don’t then I am less likely to be interested.
As mythfrances says the German brands can be pretty bad with this at times.
At least in the low to mid-range car market I think the Koreans have put pressure on everyone in this area.
They have had to include a lot of things that others put as optional to gain a customer base. Now as their cars are getting better and more people are looking their way those standard options are proving deal makers. Everyone else has had to follow suit. This makes it better for us consumers. :)

  • mmmmmm

Remember the good old days when hondas stood out as the ‘premium’ japanese brand.
Now they’re just boring toyota clones that lack basic safety features that all their competitors have already included.
i was very surprised how disappointing a Accord Euro was to drive, all talk and no torque.

  • Arky

Had to be done. Should have been done much earlier. Hondas have been blatantly overpriced against the competition for at least 2 years.

And geez but they’ve burned whoever was buying the leather-clad Civic Si for 37k, although anyone paying that kind of price really should know better.

Hey, don’t suppose they made a dent on the price of the Civic Type R by any chance?

  • Byron

Enough about constant price cuts for Honda, fix the line-up & it’s stupid tv commercials. They are so f**kin’ annoying & Honda wonder’s why it doesn’t sell any cars & + it’s the only manufactor in the top 10 to go backwards in terms of sales compared to 2009.

  • Nick K

The Jazz is a clever car, however high prices, no stability control, and no more CVT = I’ll buy an i30 diesel when the 6 speed auto is available. If the spy shots of the next civic are accurate… Honda are in for a tough time.

  • Samr

When did the Civics get so expensive ?

    • Jonno Smith

Civics didn’t get so expensive – it’s just all the other Japanese Manufacturers aggressively cut their prices to match Hyundai except for Honda. I’d remember 2003-04, the Hyundai Elantra XD (HVT) was successfully introduced and marketed for just below A$20K during the mid-year and year-end sales. They even included free automatic transmission for the money. For a small-sized car, it had to be a bargain as for the money then, you previously had to look for a Barina, Festiva, Accents, etc. The price point for small cars then slowly shifted from A$23-25K to just below A$20K. All the other Japanese manufacturers quickly cut their prices in response to the situation except for Honda and Mazda. The unfortunate situation was that at that time, Honda’s 7th generation Civic was a total sales flop – a cost-cut model with the front double wishbone deleted and rear drum brakes (from previous model’s all disc-brakes) while Mazda had introduced their new 3 series in 2004 and became an immediate sales hit! Although Honda did eventually cut their prices for the 7th gen Civic but did so in such small increments that the Corollas, Lancers, Pulsars remained cheaper than the Civic while the Mazda3 replaced the Civic as the Japanese premium brand.
