Urbee Hybrid world’s first 3D printed car unveiled at SEMA show

Stratasys 3D printing company and Kor Ecologic engineering have unveiled the world's first 3D printed car at the 2010 SEMA car show in Las Vegas.

It's kind of hard to understand but the car was apparently made using a process of adding layers of printed image onto the car. Reports say every aspect of the exterior is covered in a printed image, even the glass windows.

Boeing use a similar 3D printing process on some of its airplane components and some prosthetic limb manufacturers use the same process. Speculations say this method will be the new fashion in the modified car scene and could make its way onto production cars in the near future.

This Urbee example is a hybrid too, adding to the futuristic and ultra-modern personality. Makers claim the car can achieve consumption figures of 1.2L/100km on the highway and 2.3L/100km in the city.

No plans for production have been confirmed yet but the companies are hoping to get the Urbee into the market soon. We'll keep you updated.
