2011 Subaru Forester revisions

By Brett Davis |

Images and details of the upcoming 2011 model Subaru Forester have surfaced online. The model gets a new face over the existing Forester and also gets the new boxer engine.

From the outside, the front gets a slightly revised front grille arrangement and there’s also new wheels. But it’s under the bonnet where most of the changes will be, because it’s one of the first cars to get the all-new 2.0-litre boxer engine.

No official details regarding the Australian specification Forester has been released, although we do know that Subaru has concentrated on improving fuel economy and reducing emissions with the new boxer.

The inside also gets some updated features such as the detachable TomTom navigation unit, as well as iPod connectivity and revised boot space.

The only specifications released have been of the oversees models so it is too early to tell what other distinguishing features Australian consumers will get. Subaru Australia has said the 2011 revised model will go on sale early next year.

No word about putting the CVT into the car? There has been rumors for many months and the 4-speed auto is the weakest link in the car.

That detatchable TomTom is a really good idea. TomTom have the best GPS system and you won’t have to fork out $200 to update it. Plus you can have all of the benefits of not worrying about it being stolen or having cords around the dash it’s great.

reminds me of hte one toyota has.. also looks similar to an eclipse GPS unit..

How do you revise a “boot space” anyhow ?

I’ve looked on the Subaru Japan website and there’s not really that many changes as such. New grille, wing mirror indicators, new dials, dual-zone climate control, slightly revised dash, no 6-speed manual or 5+-speed auto and that S-Edition with a 5-speed paddleshift auto. Big whoop.

Looks better than a skoda scout .

I never commented on the looks, rather the little amount of changes.

And I get rated down for saying that. Man, some of the people on this website are some of the most f**ked up people. I’d actually love to meet you all in real life.

So its better looking thats all

          • Tomas79

Nah, this car is downlroght ugly!!
Skoda Scout is one of the best all wheeldrive wagons around…

          • Hung Low

Dear Tomas79, their is not much choice in the awd wagon market in the first place with probably only 4 or 5 brands/models. Saying the Scout is one of the best could also imply that it is “one of the worst”! Gedd it wood duck!

          • Hung Low

Also Tomas the Forester is classed as an AWD Suv type vehicle, not Wagon, the Outback fits that bill!

          • Smithy

The Subaru Forestor is so much better looking than the dated looking, frumpy and down right ugly Skoda Scout it’s just silly to suggest otherwise.

    • davie

pity if they use the new engine and hook it up to that abysmal 4 speed auto.

  • Steven

Same flat unsupportive seats in the front?

  • shibu jacob

It goes w/o saying that the pricing will also be upgraded!

  • Kris

Will the Aussie spec Forester get the new 2.5 engine or downgrade to the 2 litre though?

  • Nick K

Apart from a very wooden looking grille (nee Japanese Baroque) does the Forrester get soft touch interior plastics, CVT auto and diesel with CVT? If it’s only a dodgy re-style and the marginally better boxer engine… then it’s a bit of an anti-climax.

  • Jason

Subaru, like Toyota and Honda have become complacent. The koreans no doubt thank you.

Australian model will definately stick with a 2.5l engine,
if its the all new engine or not is yet to be seen!
I was hoping they would go to the 5 speed auto for all models!! as the 4 speed is the cars only week link and the CVT is not to my tastes!

    • Al Juraj

Yeah, CVT might not work well with AWD, so a five-speed auto is definitely the go. The manual petrol also needs six gears which is what the diesel is currently enjoying.

We own a current model forester. The biggest issue is the side mirrors – they are too big, acting as another blind spot, adjacent to the A pillar blind spot. This is not an issue with our current Outback. Hopefully the mirrors will be downsized to (that of the Outback) – some 20mm lower in height.
