Toyota Tops Dependability Research

Four Toyota vehicles are rated as the long-term quality leaders in their segments, according to internationally recognised research in the United States.
The 2006 Vehicle Dependability Study by JD Power and Associates measures problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old vehicles. Now we all sort of know Japanese cars in general are reliable and dependable. Nevertheless Toyota has always taken the cake when it comes to Dependability, how many Toyota’s do you see breaking down? Exactly.
According to the survey, the Toyota Echo, RAV4, Highlander (US Kluger equivalent) and Tundra (large pick-up) are the most dependable vehicles for quality in their segments. Toyota and the luxury brand Lexus, which topped the vehicle dependability rankings for a 12th consecutive year, are the only brands among the top five that are sold in Australia.
They dominated the dependability rankings, being the only brands to rank first in four segments. JD Power and Associates says its annual study helps consumers identify high-quality used vehicles. The company says vehicles with high long-term dependability ratings retain more of their original value than brands with lower dependability ratings.
Toyota Australia’s senior executive director sales and marketing, David Buttner, said the quality, dependability and reliability of Toyota vehicles paid off for owners.
“Customers who save money from better quality during their vehicle’s life and at trade-in time are much more likely to buy another Toyota and recommend Toyota to their friends.”
The 2006 JD Power study was based on responses from 47,620 original owners of 2003 model-year vehicles.
