2008 BMW 6 Series Coupé and Convertible

Having started life in Australia in 2004, the BMW 6 Series is the sort of car that stops traffic as it drives by. The 645CI was the first to land, powered by a 4.4-litre V8 with 245kW of power. The model was superseded by the 650i in late 2005.
The 650i received an ever bigger 4.8-litre V8 engine taken from the 7 Series. It managed 270kW and a 0-100km/h time of 5.5 seconds. With the launch of 2008 model BMW has given the 650i a mid-life facelift.
Minor and subtle exterior enhancements are not the only addition. BMW has included a variety of technological updates, including a new tune for the 4.8-litre valvetronic V8 engine which can now take the 6 Series coupe from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds. The 650i convertible has its time cut down to 5.6 seconds (from 5.8 seconds).
With over 80,000 6 Series sold around the world (689 in Australia), there is no denying the car has been a success. According to Guenther Seemann, Managing Director of BMW Group Australia, the car appeals to “successful entrepreneurs who want to enjoy the finest in V8 power, sumptuous luxury and state-of the art technological features”.
The 2008 range also receives a newly developed six-speed sports automatic transmission, paddles on the steering wheel and a sports button, which when selected provides the driver with faster gearshifts, optimised throttle mapping as well as adjusted control map for the Servotronic power steering.
Standard features have also been upgraded with Comfort Access, Soft Close automatic doors, cruise control with brake function, as well as a USB/audio interface.
The new range gets a new options list including a lane change warning system, active cruise control with stop and go function, Premium sound system and variable light distribution technology (subject to final government approval).
Although you get more with the 2008 range, the price has also increased. The new 650i Coupé now starts from $212,000 while the new 650i Convertible is $228,800 – both models now cost an extra $6000.
The hero car in the range, the BMW M6, has also gone up in price. The M6 Coupe starts at $279,400 while its convertible brother starts at $299,000 – an increase of $3000 for both models.
The new 6 Series range is in BMW showrooms now.

Damn that still looks sexy, a very odd shape, but still a pleasure to see on the road.
I’ve driven the M6 Convertible, and hopefully the new one doesn’t have as much carbon fibre on the dash.
(I can’t believe I’m saying this) but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.

on the road….Theres a couple up in my suburb one a M6 in black….I make all sorts of moaning sounds when I see it!
I do agree about BMWs interiors they are dead boring!!!!!!Extremely functional for the driver except for knob that needs upgrading ,but I have to say they have great driver position feel.
I loved the old 850s too……real expensive when they came out in the 1990s but are cheap as chips now.
I don’t care what Richard Hammond says that should go on the ultra cool wall.
Was reading that the new 7 series to come will be getting some of its looks from the concept CS…..that will be worth waiting for,never liked any of the 7 series,look crap compared to the CLS Mercs!!!!

I hate the grills on BMWs, they look like Cheif Wiggims Butt chromed.
And for $300,000 I would spend it else where. If i wanted gizmos I would go Lexus, or if i wanted fast i would go Lambo, Ferrari or Aston (which are all better looking in my opinion)

I like lots of cars! I just think BMW is overrated. Sure, they make cars that run well, I drove one when I was on holidays in Europe in July, it ran fine but I found nothing special about it (granted, it was a 3 series). Here in Oz, they’re way too expensive for what you get, hence the overpriced badge comment.

Nope, wasn’t me, I haven’t seen any spy shots of the Orion where I could actually discern it was a car and not a lump of molasses on wheels. I quite like the look of post-AU Falcons though.
Over rated how????Yep if you drove some poverty pac 3 series then its hardly going to be able to prove anything, Compare it too a Merc its closest rival! You could hardly say they make cars that just run well….I think there a little more than that! I guess 1 drive in a 3 series renta is hard to form an opinion on a whole range!

The 6 has easily got the best BMW interior, especially when it has the burgundy leather.
A car with real presence when u see it coming towards u… but the buttlid has never worked for me – the Aston DBS now there is a butt!
Does any body like the look of the 6 series its the ugliest model in BMW line up. And do BMW still make those bangle-butt’s? Thats ugly too!
And the 5 series 550i is $163,900 for the same engine in the 6 series 650Ci Coupe costing at $206,000!

Course you wouldnt knock it back BM, because look at the price tag for it………………….but i guess if you don’t like it you could all ways sell it or trade it in for a car with a similar price like a Porsche Carrera or a Audi A8 or Audi R8………………………Thats more like it!
