Mini Moke Beachcomber concept could go into production
Remember the Mini Moke from back in the days? Mini has since released a modern concept of the open-air platform and now the company is thinking of introducing the concept into the future production lineup.
According to Autocar, Mini is looking into developing a Jeep Wrangler-style off-roader to add into the fast-growing range of Mini vehicles. The car is said to be based on a shortened Countryman platform using the All4 four-wheel drive running gear.
The bodywork features a pillarless centre design with no doors for easy access. Apparently Mini insiders say the company is also developing a roofbox-style luggage compartment for the roof as well. Other features include four seats, engine options similar to that of the existing Mini range and heightened body/extended suspension.
Although the idea of fun-in-the-sun driving with no doors sounds kind of appealing, the production version is likely to include removable doors and a roof. Reports say the car in doorless guise does meet safety regulations though.
There's been no definite confirmation from Mini yet but production plans are said to be finalised by the start of 2011, once Countryman sales can be assessed. We'll keep up posted.
