Looks sexy…If this car has good power and is priced right..Folks at Nissan (for 370Z) has something to worry about..Looks like Toyota is all set to bring back the old luster!!

    • Dr Nick

Yeah and the car ain’t bad either.

    • j

Surely they’ll sell it for cheaper than the 370z.

Can’t wait for it to make it into production. As a “typical” generation y, I want it. Now.

Not the fridge box car they think is for young people. No sir. That, rear wheel drive coupe is what I want. Now.

      • Fenno

        Unlikely.
Have a look at the pricing for the old celica ($50k+)
or the MR2 (50k+) or any of the TRD’s.
        This will be expensive.

As if Toyota wil evr make something decent. Toyota forgot how to build sports cars, exciting cars in the 1980′s, early 1990′s.

    they stole my headlight design!

  • Andrew

Not a single shot of the interior to be found. Why is that? Makes me wonder how finished and close to production model this car really is – not very close, I’m thinking… Which would be a pity.

  • George

    DRIFT!

  • Blitzkrieg

Have to wait and see what subaru’s version of this car looks like.

I like the car but not the price.

  • Jean

    Do want!

It just needs to lose the carbon bonnet and ricey spoiler

  • LukasUtopia

Wow, Toyota can actually design interesting sports cars again. This looks spicy. This car makes me thankfully forget about the soulless mediocre Celica.

  • TomJ

a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine doesn’t give much ‘luster’ to me.

    • George

      Ahh typical V8 lover.

In the late 1980′s, TRD has developed a 240 horsepower out of a N/A 1.6 litres 4 cylinder 4AGE. Quick calculation shows that the motor develops 150 horsepower per litre. Of course, that was in 1980′s.

This is 2010, I think TRD have a lot more potential by turning this N/A 4 cylinder into a beast without the use of bolt on turbo’s. Now I’m in lust…

      • Blitzkrieg

        TRD closed down.

This is what Toyota should do… (australia anyways)

    (1) Sell an entry model, without the “G” kit, around 130kW/250Nm at 1000kg… that would fly around corners and handle like good ol’ AE86. If people want more power, they can tune it themselves, as this car is supposedly “tuner” friendly. Sell it for 50K Oz dollars.
Basically a FUN, FAST, GREAT HANDLING Celica… call it FR-S.. or what ever works. Make it come with 17×7 front wheels and 17×8 wheels… source it from BBS or ENKEI…actually any alloys will do, just make it look suitable.

Should have a good market for people looking for COUPE that the Nissan Sylvia S15, Toyota Celica, Hyundai Tiburon have left out the last 5 years.

Toyota first entry to the sub 40K-50K coupe for Australia should be good.

    (2) Sell a higher up variant, with turbo 180-190kW/320Nm. Comes with “G” kit or similarly styled front spoiler/skirt and sides skirts… a wing spoiler like the one showed.. make it optional for people who prefers the slick look. Add in an “exclusive” Bright red colour option with bigger wheels, 18×8 front wheels, 18×9 rear wheels… add Bronze/Copper and Charcoal coloured wheels option…. add in big TRD brakes…
Name it FR-S with “Trueno 86″ badging.

Sell it for 70K… just a tid bit cheaper than the 370Z, Alfa Romeo Cerberus, etc.

It will sell…. definitely, because (1) 190kW/350NM car at 1000-1100kg tuned for corners/handling is MORE fun than a straight line rocket that is the 370Z, any V8s… etc.

    • Nathan

Not sure if you should be comparing this car to Hyundai Tiburon as this is FWD and the latter celica’s were as well if i remember correctly. A better comparison would be Genesis coupe and AE86 and/or MR-S.

The 370Z also happens to be a well balanced car that can corner pretty hard (more power and slightly less weight than the old 350z).

I think if the rumours about Subaru’s version are correct (Sti engine 195kw in a RWD platform) then it leaves the door open for Toyota to make a more sedate/entry level version of the car.

I also hope Toyota can make a high revving version like the original 4AGE maybe even supercharged like the Lotus engines. A competitor for the Exige would be awesome.

  • yowza

^ I was merely mentioning the Tiburon as it was available in Australia along with the Celica and S15 around the same time…. a generation ago. Im not comparing drive trains or performance.. but merely market..

And yes the 370Z is a nicely balanced car, but it is a tad heavier than what the S15 and this suppose FR-S is aiming to be.

  • Nathan

Yowza, all I was pointing out was that I think layouts tend to influence the market and buyers decisions. I used to own an S15 and when I originally bought it I wasn’t considering a Tiburon or late model Celica as I wanted a lightweight FR sportscar.

I will admit that there hasn’t been many good cars similar to the S15 for many years and this car could be the closest. If it is a good balanced, low weight, powerful car then look out Nissan cause tuners and drifters will worship this car.

  • Nav

Does anyone else have the unnerving feeling like they’re looking at a GTR combined with a 370Z?

  • AussieHolden

I wish toyota would build something like this and bring back the Supra nameplate.
