Audi Australia’s Managing Director, Joerg Hofmann, says the new A5 heralds a clear step forward for the brand in terms of desirability.

“This new Coupe is a stunning vehicle and we believe it is the best in its class. With competitive pricing, advanced engine technology and elegant design, the A5 will surely turn the heads of the luxury car-buying public,”

The A5 coupe will debut with a 3.2-litre V6 engine with a seven-speed continuously variable transmission offering a maximum of 195kW at 6500rpm and 330Nm across 3000 to 5000rpm – accelerating the two-door sports coupe from zero to 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds.

The remainder of the A5 Coupe range, which will be available by August 2008 is powered by powerful and economical FSI, TFSI and TDI engines, which are both highly efficient and eco-friendly. Diesel models already comply with the strict EU5 emission standard.

For the first time, the A5 and S5 coupe models which feature a brand new key which stores important information, such as the car’s current mileage or warning messages from the Audi A5’s driver information system as soon as it is inserted into the cockpit.

The A5 3.2 FSI multitronic is now available with a price tag of $91,900 with the quattro tiptronic transmission arriving in April 2008.

The flagship S5 4.2 FSI quattro tiptronic will make its debut alongside the A5 1.8T FSI during May 2008 with the A5 3.0 TDI diesel model being the last to land on our shores in August.

I have already seen an S5 in Sydney. In the eastern suburbs. I have seen one numerous times over the last month with civilian number plates and all.

Why does this say it is getting launched in may?

  2. Tonyn says:

its launched! we have been driving an s5 for two months! a5 v6 has just landed, may will be the 1.8t!

  3. George says:

Sorry its meant to read S5 4.2 FSI quattro tiptronic, all fixed now.

  4. Bavarian Missile says:

Ok Tonyn…….don’t you think that look like a BMW Coupe from the rear?? I guess you know what my choice would be between the two……hehehe

  5. Al Juraj says:

I believe the A5, like the Q7, didn’t turn out to look as good as Audi had hoped. The front looks bulky if not saggy. This new coupe will be hard to justify over the handsome 2-door 3-Series, which is probably quicker and more fun as well.

  6. Guy UK boy says:

Nice cars but i really don’t think Audi are pushing the styling hard enough. 2yrs time this will look dated compared to others. The fairey lights in the headlights look a bit of a Bogan Xmas display.

  7. Lcat says:

“The Audi A5 is the most beautiful car I have ever designed,” said Walter de’Silva, the head of design at Audi.
    Have to agree.
Is there an RS in the pipeline for Aus?

  8. Myke says:

I agree I haven’t warmed to the looks of the A/S5. I don’t like the squiggly ridge line on the side of the vehicle and the sagging front design.

BMW also has RWD, the Audi range shares the same platforms and engines as the rest of the VW Group. I dunno, I think that makes the Audi’s less special IMO, in comparsion to BMW and Mercedes.

  9. Lcat says:

what is wrong with sharing VAG DNA when it can produce the likes of Gallardo & R8?

  10. Myke says:

Nothing wrong with the R8 and Gallardo. But many of the engines found in Audi, are also in Skodas, Seats and Volkswagens. It’s just my opinion, but it would be nicer if Audi was a little more exclusive.

  11. Lcat says:

Know what u mean Myke butI guess in the age of globalisation it is harder if not impossible to go it alone.
Won’t be long before Merc & Bmw work on joint developments

  12. Duck says:

The rear looks similar to some BMW sedans and coupe’s.

  13. Duck says:

And im asking every body would you rather own a Audi A5 or a BMW M3 Coupe?

  14. Me. says:

    BMW for me…………………………….

  15. Bavarian Missile says:

    Ok wheres Tonyn??? Not watching……

Ill go the Innovator not the Imitator ……

That will get him back for not liking the X6…HAHAHA

  16. Lcat says:

    Good question Duck,
If your heart says M3 it might not be so straight forward a question for the mind to answer!
Audi didn’t quite manage to blow away the M3 with the RS4 and are preparing the RS5 to be more convincing by upping the torque to 600+nm across a broader band ,fit ancillaries from the RS8 e.g. ceramic brakes. and tweak the front to rear drive ratios.

  17. James says:

I have a 2008 TT Roadster which I love. I really like the S5 and A5 and I would buy one but I love my TT too much!

  18. Bavarian Missile says:

Yep Lcat……I think my money again will be on the M3!

Yep not sure if the guys can pull that test off…..they would need a track and a couple of press cars to thrash??Not an easy task but one I am sure they would attempt!

  19. John Howard says:

Mr Bavarian….my guess is with your beemer on the track, but the Audi is easier to live with in terms of day to day comfort and driveability. Somehow Audi will always be on a backfoot with performance. But remember they did win the Le Mans 24 in a diesel.

  20. Roger Me Senseless says:

I’d rather sit in an Audi than a BMW but i’d rather drive a BMW. Pay yer dosh and drives yer choice.

Fuel prices as they are i would buy the diesel and drive for longer.

  21. Tonyn says:

    funy stuff BM!!! im back!

no i dont think it dies at all, i have had then side by side! i reckon the tail lights look very aston martinish?

  22. Tonyn says:

hey BM you have guys on here thinking you are male again!!

M3 is def quicker! but the RS5 will core that!

  23. Duck says:

    Hey John Howard,

How does it feel like beeing kicked out of the lodge and the Parliment house after 10 years?

  24. Bavarian Missile says:

hahaha……..Tonyn I was hoping you would be away long enough for this blog to have disappeared!!

To tell you the truth I think the rear on the BM Coupes look dated !

Maybe I should call myself something original to stop the confusion ……something like M3 Girl!!! Na that for females that have a problem with equal rights!!

  25. tonyn says:

see i always come at the right time!!!

Tail lights in the wet look aston martin!

    M3 girl could work….. hehehehehe
