Well, it didn’t take long, did it? The new Subaru Impreza WRX STi has just been released in Japan, and someone has broken the heart of every Subaru fan (us included) by crashing into one.

This car is feeling very sorry for itself, sitting in a smash repair yard in Japan. The talk on the internet hasn’t been kind, ranging from comments like “The rear end looks less like a Focus now. Improvement for the better!” to the universally overused “that’ll buff right out.”

And think: he only took 282km to do it, too.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks to Tom Jakovljevic for the pics.

No amount of buffing compound will get that out!
Poor guy…….
Hey Frugal One…….I doubt you will, they have grown up too much now to attract that market type!

Obviously hit in the rear corner by a truck.
It’s probably already been bought by a panel beater in NZ who will import it and fix it.

Frugal One you are a very sad clown…
Well at least it would ‘appear’ that the STi did not lose control. Seems to be a very bad case of rear ending. The car otherwise looks remarkably in tact which is testament to the 5 star safety rating it has. Or maybe the brakes are that shit-hot that the donk at the back could not stop in time.
Looking at those tyres now - I think they could be somewhat wider - but that is one hell of muffler!

He probably has just changed lanes too quickly for the 4WD behind him to react. The STI also has terrific breakes.

This was not an accident!
It was Subaru responding to customer feedback on how to make the rear end, and especially the tail-lights look better.

It is a fact that the Impreza is the 1st and only small car to get the highest safety rating…especially over your beloved piece of crap Mitsu and Mazda3.

how did the rear muffler stay intact?
missile,
i always thought if you were hit from behind it was the other drivers fault too, but boy did i have a hard time trying to explain to my insurance company how the guy who hit me in the rear QTR panel whilst i was stopped was the one at fault.

WHOHH-Outch….
It looks like it spunn out and the back hit something high as you can see the exhaust is still there.
OR a high truck slamed the back and pushed it into something Because it was high what the back hit, that’s why the exhaust is sill intact.
(Report)
December 20th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
No idea how it stayed it intact??????
Really……..I thought the other party was always in the wrong ! Didn’t he have insurance??

All this talk of safety ratings is completely pointless. The photos alone don’t prove the speed at which the crash occurred. It could’ve been 10km/h or 110km/h - the former would mean the car is crap, the latter would mean it’s fantastic. We have no idea.

BM,
you hit the nail right on the head,
the joker that run into me was uninsured. 6 months after i already had the thing fixed i get a letter from my insurance company with an attached letter from the bloke that hit me trying to make out i came tearing through a giveway sign.
my take is he saw the $2000+ bill for something he termed a “knock the dent out and buff it job” and shat him self and started to make up excuses.
the thing that annoyed me most is my insurance company decided just to absorb the cost and not go any further to hammer the lying bugger.
a little lesson for everyone is even if you are not at fault and whether or not the other person is insured or not always put it through YOUR insurance company and let them chase it up for you.
i had it once when the other person was insured and dealing with his insurance company took for ever!!!! i eventually contacted my insurance company and they told me i should have gone through them and they would have saved me the headache.
so lucky i put the uninsured guy through my company other wise i would have not got the money.

Oh look, a riced-up crashed Hyundai…oh wait…it’s an Impreza…
What the hell was Subaru thinking with this latest shape? Too many model changes over a short time have at least allowed a killing on the second hand market…”old” cars which are two or three shapes old and no longer popular amongst the “I must have the latest model” brigade, means that the prices are dropping quickly, even for WRX’s…the unpopular “Corolla headlight” model is being sold in WRX form for down around $28000 locally…big drop in price in a short time…
