Totally aware of this, you can push the styling boundaries without having to do another AU.
As my comparison above is pointing out.
I'm making an early direct comparison between orion and VE from what we can see so far...
I bet Ford has pushed the boundaries with orion more than Holden did for the VE.

Adam - You say Holden didn't push the boundaries far enough. The reason why could have something to do with the AU.

The AU was a product of Fords Revolutionary "Edge" design phiosophy. Yet instead of improving the looks of the previous Falcons.. they designed a car with so many intersecting curves and sharp edges etc that when the AU was released; It was so different from what people were used to or expecting that many had trouble recognising it as a Falcon.
So much so that sales fell and Ford brought forward the facelift - the BA which was a hit. Infact a Ford Exec once said [in Motor] shortly after the release of the BA that "the BA is what the AU should have looked like"

Therefore; in relation to car design Evolution is better than Revolution.

Remember: It's okay to be different inorder to get noticed but you can reach a point where you're considered too extreme or weird and people just ignore you.

Lcat and Tonyn...

I agree it seems to be a new styling feature among more new models. I like the look it's almost adds presence and solidity to whole car styling wise.
The one aspect i don't like about the VE commodore is the boring block styling, the side panels are generic, the rear is upright and straight. The front headlights has boring, done before cutouts and the wheel arches are over done and don't suit the base models.
Don't get me wrong the VE is attractive but in a boring and conservative sense. Holden didn't push styling far enough imo.
To me i think falcon will have the more interesting and cohesive styling in direct comparison, even the base falcon will have a flowing headlight design.
Time will tell but if i had to place a bet now, even while the orion is still disguised, i place my money on the falcon being being more interesting and cohesive in basic design.
What do guys think? and girls!

Adam u have made an interesting observation, I think there is a fashion trend towards an accentuated beltline - Bmw 1 series, new A4, Imprezza etc, Anyone think of others? Did Bangle(Bungle) start it?
