Mitsubishi ASX at 2010 AIMS

One of the three cars Mitsubishi is showing off at this year's Sydney Motorshow is the ASX. You may think its an Outlander but in fact its just that little bit smaller than its bigger brother and that little bit bigger than a Lancer Sportback.

Mitsubishi calls its an SUV but with a 2WD variant available and its rather small dimensions, it's easy to mistake the sub-compact SUV for an overgrown hatchback.

There are three variants of the Mitsubishi ASX - 2WD, 4WD and Aspire (4WD). The base model front-wheel drive only vehicle gets a 2.0-litre petrol four with 110kW and 197Nm of torque whilst the other two have the option for the brand spanking new 1.8-litre turbodiesel engine with 110kW and 300Nm.

Due to the car's development for Europe, the ASX diesel is currently only available as a six-speed manual but the automatic is on its way.

Prices start from just $25,990 and the top of the range ASX showcases Mitsubishi's technology with hands-free proximity smart key technology, dusk-sensing headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, power adjustment on the driver’s seat and Mitsubishi’s Multi-Communications System (MCS) which has a 40gb harddrive and incorporates sat-nav and Bluetooth.

It also gains Headlining the range, ASX Aspire gets 17-inch alloy wheels and privacy glass.
