Video: Lotus Elite Convertible concept

Lotus has revealed a concept video of a new Lotus Elite convertible which could go into production. The new car features a stunning body shape and a hard top roof, as well as the ultra-potent 5.0-litre engine.

The video below shows a computer-generated film of how the car would look in motion, and it seems to feature a hard-top roof design similar to the Ferrari California; in that it looks completely like a coupe in roof-up mode but then transforms into a beautiful convertible at the touch of a button.

Lotus says the car would use a modified version of the Lexus IS F 5.0-litre V8 engine, outputting 455kW. This means the car should be good for 0-100km/h times in the mid three-second range.

Lotus is pitching the car as a hybrid, too, with regenerative braking technology (KERS) which will mean a first for the sports convertible segment if the car goes into production. We'll keep you updated. Check out the video in the meantime.
