Volkswagen Amarok at 2010 AIMS

The Volkswagen Amarok is destined for Volkswagen showrooms early next year but before it makes it here officially you can find one at the Sydney motorshow. The idea for Volkswagen was to design a ute that mixes Volkswagen's interior quality and design with a capable utility.

Being a Volkswagen the Amarok will no doubt benefit from the company's advanced diesel technology. Volkswagen says that may of the technologies found in the Amarok will be a first for the whole segment.

A twin-turbochargers 120kW TDI engine will set the segment alight. Volkswagen will also offer an optional permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with Torsen differential. But its not all about looks, design and safety. The Amarok also happens to be the best in class when it comes to space, load area (2.52 m2) width and height (1555mm long by 1620mm wide), cargo loading ability and payload capacity (1 metric tonne).

Amarok dual cab promises adequate space for five adults, in fact the Amarok has the largest interior dimensions of a vehicle in its class. Of course you don't have to carry five adults, so with only two on board the fold-up rear seat and folding backrest significantly increase interior cargo space.

Safety is paramount, thanks to driver and front passenger airbags, as well as head and thorax airbags. ESP is standard and interestingly it will also come with a trailer stabilisation system (similar to that on the new Ford Ranger).

When it comes to off-roading, you simply press the Off-Road- Mode button and all the cars computer systems (ESP, Electronic Differential Lock, Anti-Slip Regulation system and ABS) all re-calibrate to meet the driving conditions. The off-road system is capable up to speeds of 100km/h.
