Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at 2010 AIMS

Of course, one of the show-stoppers at this year's Australian International Motor Show is the utterly stunning Gullwing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

On paper is looks simply beautiful, in the flesh though, you need to remember to keep breathing as it quite literally takes your breath away. Here at the show it has drawn huge attention. And with the doors propped up it looks like an elegantly posing statue.

Underneath the aesthetics, there's a brutal 6.2-litre V8 expressing 420kW of power and 650Nm of torque. Not only does it produce those figures, it is said to emit one of the most glorious V8 soundtracks ever heard.

The car is also the first all-AMG designed concept ever attempted and conceived. The guys at the AMG tuning house previously only took on models which were already developed and then garnished and redeveloped them to the AMG philosophy.

Although a true manual transmission is not available, the car is said to remain as a great driver's car. It features a Speedshift automatic gearbox that can be used in three different settings. 'C' for controlled efficiency, 'S' for sport, and S+ for Sport plus. There's also an 'M' mode which puts the transmission into manual settings that are completely left to the driver's commands.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is on sale here in Australia with prices starting at $464,000.
