The highly-anticipated Audi A1, Audi's new entry-level compact, is on show at the Australia International Motor Show. The car is aimed directed towards the Mini and its rivals.

Audi says the car will be available with a wide range of 'personalisation' options, including interior and exterior colours, interior materials and features and trimmings. This highlights Audi's dedication to providing a small car to young buyers who still want to maintain a high level of luxury, class and comfort.

The car will be available in a variety of four cylinder engines, two diesel and two petrol. Making up the petrol flavours will be a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine outputting 90kW, and a 1.2-litre turbocharged four cylinder outputting 63kW. Both engines are said to offer excellent fuel efficient figures.

Making up the two diesel engines will a 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder, one outputting 66kW of power and another sharing the same specifications outputting 77kW of power.

Just in case these engines don't sound fuel efficient enough for you, all Audi A1s are fitted with regenerative braking which stores electricity generated during deceleration. The Audi A1 also features a stop/start system on all manual transmission versions. An S Tronic dual-clutch seven-speed is also available.

Fuel economy figures are said to kick off at 3.8L/100km.
