Porsche pauses plans on Cajun and mini Boxster

According to a report by Autocar, Porsche is putting a pause on plans to produce some of the future models previously proposed. Main concerns are the brand-new models, such as the Porsche Cajun small SUV and the new baby Porsche Boxster, which were expected to make their way into the Porsche showroom.

Porsche chairman, Matthias Mueller, spoke to Autocar indicating the company will undergo a review of the new models before any definite plans are announced. The report says the review does not include the Porsche 911 or Porsche Panamera future plans. Matthias Mueller said about the introduction of the smaller models,

"We have to clarify how we are to spread out our product programme - below, above, left and right and so on - and we will see. There are a lot of questions still to be answered and we want to create a business case [for them]. Then it will be possible."

There's said to be some conflict in production between Volkswagen boss, Martin Winterkorn, and his hopes of reaching 150,000 Porsche sales per year, too. Meanwhile Matthias Mueller says Porsche needs to look at other issues, saying, "we have to have profit and we intend to keep ourselves premium," in the same report.

So although the idea of a new entry-level, smaller Porsche Boxster sounds good, as well as an Audi Q5-based mini Porsche Cayenne being just as tempting - especially if they come with cheaper price tags than the larger variants - we'll have to wait until the end of the year for definite plans to be confirmed.
