2008 Ford Falcon Orion details

December 12, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Update 13/12/2007 – More photos added to gallery.

Ford has started releasing their own spyshots as part of a publicity campaign leading up to the release of the all-new 8th generation Falcon in April-May next year.

The blue oval is scheduled to release specifications of the 2008 Falcon in February at the Melbourne Motor Show. As it stands, the new Falcon sedan will launch in early May with the ute and FPV models to hit showrooms by the end of June (there are conflicting reports regarding the wagon).

The new Falcon is crucial to the survival of Ford’s Australian-manufacturing future. With plans to build the Ford Focus locally, the new Falcon must also do its part, and having invested well-over $110 million in the new Falcon so far, Ford is determined to get its way.

So far this year the current Falcon has failed to finish on the sales podium. Coming in fourth behind the Holden VE Commodore, Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3.

To get back in the top three, Ford has been hard at work fixing all the little things which has kept the current model behind its main rival, the VE Commodore. Safety has been given top priority with the new model expected to receive a five-star safety rating from ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program).

The problem facing Ford seems to be that the new Falcon might not be that new when it comes to the technical things – but do you really care? Leave us a comment.

With news of Ford dumping its inline 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine in 2010, it’s very likely that the blue oval has spent limited money modifying the current engine before the new V6 arrives. It will undoubtedly have a few more kilowatts, but it will essentially remain unchanged.

The ZF six-speed auto will also stay put, but the aging four-speed auto found in the base variants will be replaced with a five-speed.

One way or another, the new Falcon has a lot to prove and the job is far from easy as the trend towards smaller cars and SUVs continues. More importantly, governments now see green cars as political brownie points which will damage fleet sales.

Don’t panic. We are not trying to scare our Ford fans as there is no denying the possibility of a Falcon revolution… if Ford can produce a car which looks the part. After all, you can have a five-star safety rated car with all the bells and whistles, but if it looks like the AU Falcon, it will struggle.

It is widely expected that Ford will unveil the new Falcon at next year’s Melbourne Motor Show in February, with insiders suggesting a Mondeo look-alike. For now we have more spy photos.

The images below were taken by members of various Ford Forums. There are some rather interesting photos in there, including two taken by Ford employees showing the frame and door. Enjoy.

  1. The boss says:

No he still wont buy a vxr8 but he will buy the m5 instead.

  2. Oh is it you de ja vu? ill be back once iv changed my um sweaty jocks. What happened to that gay uk boy?

  3. Wheelnut says:

Holden may stick with the LS7

However; I remember a couple of years ago HSV had a special deal where they got the same 300Kw engine that was in the Callaway Corvette which they put into the limited edition GTS-300

Therefore; the Eaton Supercharged 485Kw [LS-9] engine could find its way over here under a similar arrangement where it will be unique to HSV..

In the same way that the V10 will most likely be an FPV only item for the GT-HO.

Then [and as I said] with a bit of tweaking from CAPA etc you could possibly reach 600Kw+

HSV are also looking at the DOHC Northstar V8 for a “Budget” [50K] Clubbie

  4. ChopstaR87 says:

with the LS7 GTS on the wheels mag…. it wasnt from HSV it was done by an aftermarket company CSV = Chev specail vehicles… so not shore what HSV will do… saying this that 400Kw 7Litre V8 did 4.7sec to 100km… a little slow considering HSV claim 5.0 for the standard 6.0 V8 GTS. also i would think the next gen typhoon 300kw+ could come close….. to that mark anyways

i have also heard about the V10 for the GTHO Pharse V… it could be the engine which was in the GR1 Prototype. so with that by 2010 -2011 it could be a number of engine as the is used in the in phase V….the v8s that Ford and shelby put together which have 373kw, 400kw or the big daddy 522Kw or the Ford GT40 engine which is just a super charged 5.4litre puts out 410kw or the GTX1 Concept engine which also puts out 500Kw which was driven by Clarkson from Top gear.

also by that time there will be the 5.8 and 6.2 Litre Ford V8s… which should be good for a power increase as well… i think the GTHO pharse v Will be all about speed… it well be much lighter then any other falconas well…. as there should only be 300 made!!!!

As the Inline 6 in to die in 2010…. i would think there will be specail vehicle released to mark the end…. me thinking a Typhoon on steriods… with less wieght!!! maybe they bring out a 373KW (500hp) typhoon or 400Kw to match holdens GTSR…. just an idea….but i would think they will finish the inline 6 with a big bang!!!!!

well thats my thoughts on the whole thing….

    Anti spam word = Ford….lol

  5. Watto_Cobra says:

Thanks ChopstaR87. I didn’t buy the mag, just saw the numbers on the front. Didn’t realise it was CSV instead of HSV.

CSV has a pretty crappy “ring” to it, or is it just me?

  6. Wheelnut says:

CSV mighn’t have the same image as HSV But for some reason they have always managed to extract more power from the Chev engines then their factory backed; cross-town rivals.. ever since the VT Veloce Sedan and the Bullet Ute

  7. Watto_Cobra says:

Maybe it’s just I’m used to HSV, CSV just doesn’t sound right. I’ve never heard of “Veloce Sedan and the Bullet Ute”. What are they Wheelnut?

  8. Oz. says:

That new “BOSS” V8 coming out in 2009, you can shut of 4 cylinders and its SOHC, and can be over 7.0L. That sounds OK for Ford!!

  9. falcon foreva says:

Iff the orion brings out a gtho i think they will super charge the orion 5.8l 320kw v8. and that should boost it up to about 370kw, i havent read this from anywhere but im just guessing on what i think they will do.

  10. Wheelnut says:

The Veloce was CSVs verion of the Clubsport and the Bullet was their version of the Maloo. Yet unlike the HSVs the Veloce and the Bullet were more “stealth” looking – they looked more like a SS.
Infact the olny real way to pick a Veloce for example is its flat top decklid which is similar to a Subaru Impreza

CSV started back with the VR/VS but it wasn’t until the VT that they showed what they coould do. At the time of the VT HSV were getting 220-250Kw out of the V8 in the GTS whereas CSV were getting 300-330Kw.

CSVs weren’t sold through Holden dealers like HSVs are.. CSV had their own boutique showrooms..
They didn’t make that many I believe – no more than 300 Veloces and 100 Bullets

Which could explain why CSV have reverted back to more of a speed shop operation similar to The Brock Shop; where Holden owners can take their new car and get it worked on by Peter DiCheria and his crew.

  11. Andrew M says:

    falcon 4 ever,
so is the orion getting a 5.8L or did you get it
    mixed up?

  12. falcon foreva says:

O sory i got it mixed up

  13. Oz. 200 says:

    5.8L For after the Orion?

  14. Bavarian Missile says:

    Nope……..never happen!The 5.4 already is a long stroke engine…

  15. Bavarian Missile says:

If you really want to get into the engine dynamics of it …..Ill have to bring my brain box hubby on answer to your questions.I’m limited in knowledge on the 5.4s…..

  16. Oz. says:

I think You mis-understood BM, I mean the “Hurricane” V8 after the Orion that could be a 5.8L or 6.2L.

  17. Bavarian Missile says:

Im baffled where did you get that name from OZ……..???

  18. Oz. says:

I just saw someone on this site by that name who was having an argument and said about stroking.

  19. Bavarian Missile says:

    So your assuming??

  20. Oz. says:

What do you mean??? I don’t even know your name….
