Michael Schumacher drives a cab

How great would it be if your next cabbie was seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher?

Most of us would be happy with a cabbie that can just find his way around town without 'unexpected' detours, but for Michael Schumacher that wasn't enough as he recently got behind the wheel of a cab to get to the airport on time for his flight.

Having flown in to Coburg on Saturday, the Schumachers were heading to Gehuelz, 30km away, to take home their newest pet, an Australian sheep dog called 'Ed'.

However on the way back, the 38-year-old, who was accompanied by his wife and two children, found himself in a slow moving taxi - something had to be done!

After a polite request, cab driver Tuncer Yilmaz swapped seats and watched in amazement as Schumacher took the wheel.

"I found myself in the passenger seat, which was strange enough, but to have "Schumi" behind the wheel of my cab was incredible, he drove at full throttle around the corners and overtook in some unbelievable places." Mr Yilmaz told the Muenchner Abendzeitung.

German autobahns have no speed limits but local streets do, and we do have to wonder what the local police force would have said had they caught Mr Schumacher speeding. Surely the generic "you have no control of a vehicle at high speeds" approach wouldn't work too well with a guy who has won more F1 races than anyone else!

The taxi driver was given a €100 tip ($230 AUD) for his bravery, and yes, the Schumachers made their flight. So much for better late than never!
