Mercedes-Benz GLK spy photos
December 10, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
Our European photographers caught Mercs’ new GLK out an about recently as it prepares to début at next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
With a global trend of declining large-SUV sales, Mercedes is suffering without a compact off-roader. The German luxury maker will use the GLK to enter the compact SUV market to fight the likes of BMW’s X3 and Audi’s upcoming Q5.
Unfortunately for Mercedes, its German brothers are already working on even smaller variants with the X1 and the Q3.
The GLK is considerably smaller than Mercedes’ full-size GL. As a matter of interest, the name GLK basically means “short version of GL” as K stands for “kurz,” – German for short.
According to European sources the GLK is based on the technical components of the all-new Mercedes C-class, but will look similar to the GL‑class.
The range is expected to carry the company’s 3.5-litre V6 with Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive as standard. All versions are expected to have the 7G-Tronic TouchShift automatic transmission.
The GLK range will debut in 2009 with the possibility of a V8-powered GLK63 AMG version coming in 2010.

Pity it won’t be coming to Australia…
No RHD production possibilities apparently which is a bad move in markets like the UK and here !
They would sell quite a few here otherwise.
but i have been told it is a possibility for the australian market from a staff member of mercedes!
“Possibility” – seems remote…
The 4WD hardware is in the way of the RHD steering system apparently. Some serious re-engineering required, especially given that the car seems quite production ready otherwise.
If it does make Australia, it will be 2010 at least – what a stuffup by MB (IMHO)… Here in Australia, they would make much more money with the GLK than with the unloved A, B and R Classes combined !
surely the hardware wouldnt be too dissimilar to ML class, ive had a lot to do with benz and i cant believe they wouldnt think about the RHD market! They over engineer everything they do.
I will get in contact with him and see what i can find!
Don’t you mean next year’s Paris Motor Show?
Its a complete copy of Mitsubishi pajero
I agree with Faizan, it is similar to Mitsubishi Pajero!
