2011 Mitsubishi Triton Club Cab reintroduced

By Brett Davis |

Back due to popular demand, Mitsubishi has relaunched the Club Cab platform to its Mitsubishi Triton 2011 model year range.

The new ute is now available in GLX 2.5-litre turbo diesel form with four-wheel drive. It also sees the addition of bucket seats, lever type hand brake, floor-mounted centre console with cup holder, a flip-up occasional-use rear seat, and a tray offering 1805mm in length and 460mm depth.

Masahiko Takahashi, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited is pleased to reintroduce the new model, saying in a recent report,

“Triton is one of the mainstays of the Mitsubishi range and has always proved popular as a practical and rugged work vehicle that can take all the hard knocks thrown at it. At the same time, Triton’s recognised four-wheel drive capabilities and car-like comfort have seen it used for recreational activities as well.

This resulted in Mitsubishi bringing back the Triton Club Cab into the Triton range. It features all the usual GLX fundamentals and specifications, such as a five-speed manual transmission, a fuel efficient turbo diesel 2.5-litre engine outputting 131 kW of power at 4000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000rpm – capable of 8.1L/100km fuel consumption – and a 2700kg towing capacity.

The Club Cab also offers a range of safety features including driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution. Electronic stability control is also available as an option.

Mitsubishi is offering the new Triton Club Cab with a five year/130,000km vehicle warranty and a 10 year/160,000km powertrain warranty. The company is also offering the car with a five year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance package.

Prices start at $38,990, not including delivery and statutory charges.

    Typically third world ute – steel rims, no rear bumper bar (wtf?), and 1980s style ‘prison bar’ type separator behind the driver. If Mitsubishi attempted to sell this truck in the US market, it would laughed out of the country. In fact, it probably wouldn’t go far in Europe either (they sell it there, but only the high end versions).

      Mate. as far as work utes go, this thing is pretty advanced. And besides the things you mention are pretty standard and useful on a work ute. And besides this would be classed as a hatchback in the US, and they really dont need this sort of Ute in Europe.

        I challenge you to name a single other first world country that sells this vehicle in this specification, other than Australia and New Zealand. I mean, no rear mounted stop lamp?? This thing is clearly designed for south east asia, and other parts of the 3rd world, where vehicle and road safety is almost non-existant and non-important, and it’s all about the low cost. Oh, and you want me to get started on that Express van from 25 years ago that Mitsubishi still sell? They should be absolutely ASHAMED of themselves for still offering that thing on the market.

        • Shak

          I dont think any other Advanced nations sell this spec, because no other advanced nations want this spec. As stated by Mitsubishi, popular demand brought this spec back. When you state third world, i agree it was designed for them, but to be sold here, it had to pass ADR compliance so it does have a high mount stop light.

      That prison bar you talk of is called a headboard so you can sit your long ladders or wood or whatever onto it and not onto the cabin of your car

      No rear bumper lets the tailgate drop all the way down
      With a bumper bar it restricts the tailgate to only go down 90 degrees instead of hanging 180

      Steel rims well it’s a work horse why do you want blingy alloy rims for? after all they need to keep cost down to be able to make the price appealing to tradies and fleet…

      im not a fan of the mitubishi but f$%k me little boy ricky you would have to be one of the most negative c#%ts going around, what do you do for a living and what is your ideal ute? please enlighten me.

      • Ricky

        I wouldn’t be so negative if these companies stopped dumping their rubbish onto our market and starting bringing decent vehicles here, that they get in other countries.

        • Crossy

          You still haven’t answered the question!
          What is your ideal ute sold overseas that is better than everything sold here now.

        • Devil’s Advocate

          Do you also mean rubbish companies are dumping out here like some models of the Hyundai i45 with the 3rd world “foot operated park brake”???!!! ;-)

    • Andrew M

      What ute isnt third world when compared to a passenger vehicle (apart from Falcon and Commodore ute).

      As far as utes in the typical Jap ute class go the triton offers reasonable value.

      I actually wouldnt be surprised if the Triton now tops the private sales because I am seeing a lot higher percentage of them nowdays

      • Devil’s Advocate

        Aren’t you forgetting Andrew M that the Falcon ute still has cart springs up the back so in reality you can say it fits in between the Jap utes and the Commodore ute when it comes to “3rd world”. PLEASE don’t take this as me saying that there is something wrong with leaf springs, they work well on load luggers. Then again, you can’t really compare the 4WD Jap utes to the Commodore and Falcon either. :-)

      Ricky, You’re repeating yourself, again.

      • HSV650BHP

        Oracle thanks for the wisdom, now go play on a train line like a good little boy. As a tradie all we want is to be able to have something still with a decent tray and maybe some luxuries oh and when we look at it we don’t want to see something that looks like that monster mole off of
        ‘The Circle” Is that so much to ask???? So Ricky good on you, you are spot on and if some of the toffee nosed suits on this site actually got off their butt and did some manual labour they mind find the tradie work vehicles ( extended cab chassis) on the market today are inferior rubbish. If you drive off road and want it to last you have a choice of a hilux or a navara but don’t dare ask to have the same specs you would get in their top model dual cabs, No No No. Thats aimed squarely at Nissans ST-X King Cab, ST-X by name only nothing like ST-X Dual Cab. It’s a joke

        • The Oracle

          HSV6.5HP, I’m sure Rick with a silent P can speak for himself without the pointless contribution of your incoherent rant. Frankly, your bogan lower class whingeing and moaning is of no interest to anyone.

            ha ha go the oracle

  • JEKYL & HYDE

    motor=pass
    rear seats/seatbelts=pass
    warrenty/roadside=pass
    suicide doors=fail
    tub=epicfail
    looks=fail

  • JEKYL & HYDE

    the rear tub looks like a messy afterthought,and why no suicide doors like most others…

    • Karl

      They’re called suicide doors for a reason.

  • http://hard-on mick

    My god that thing looks hiddeous!!!

  • rose

    Its a commercial ute!!! Its not meant to have specs. People that buy commercial vehicles for luxury or to customize them are flat out knobs. They are made to tackle tough jobs, and are tuned accordingly.

    Ricky: STeel rims are load bearing. If you want bling buy a bracelet, and a rear bumper?? what are you a Woman?? ITS A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE!!! Not a fashion statement.

    And calling it third world….come on. Take a trip out to the mines, you know those big smelly ugly things that power our nations economy?? How many mining trucks have 22′s and a big stezza???
