Rolls-Royce showcases Bespoke programme in Paris

By Karl Peskett |

Rolls-Royce has showcased its Bespoke programme on its stand at the 2010 Paris Motor Show with no less than five cars displayed, each with a tribute to the Mondial de l’Automobile Paris 2010.

The recently launched Rolls-Royce Ghost has up until now only been available with set options, however Ghost has now been included in the Bespoke programme, with owners able to personalise their car like never before.

For example, if you wanted your family crest painted on the door cappings, it could be done. A custom picnic set? No problems. You wanted to match the paint to a particular coloured fibre? Sure, why not. How about using the wood from your favourite tree as part of the dashboard? If there’s a will, there’s a way.

Bespoke is all about ensuring the customer gets the only vehicle like that, and pushing the boundaries of coachbuilding. Harking back to the days when your vehicle was made by hand. The sky is the limit.

I wonder if they would do me a set of bespoke roof racks for the skis or when I pick up some timber from Bunnings.

A towbar would also be handy for the caravan or when I take the rubbish to the tip in the box trailer.

Where do I go to get an answer?

German carmaker BMW (Xetra: 519000 – news) is recalling own brand and Rolls-Royce cars powered by V8 and V12 engines in Britain, the United States and other markets because of a potential braking problem.

“In extreme cases, a loss of power-assisted steering may occur but mechanical braking is still available,” a spokesman said on Friday.

More than 10,000 vehicles are being recalled in Britain, he said, adding he could not say how many cars were affected worldwide.

In Britain, about 10,000 BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series models were affected, and 1,200 Rolls-Royces.
