Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

It means the “sixth Element” and it’s the latest and greatest creation by the Lamborghini maestros at the Santa’Agata Bolognese factory. You are looking at the future of super sports car design.

It might be a masterpiece in carbon-fibre design, but the Sesto Elemento’s performance specs are off the charts ballistic.

With a curb weight of just 999 kilograms (you’ve got to like this thing already) including V10 powerplant (419 kW & 540 Nm) and permanent all-wheel drive, this Lambo will travel from 0-100km/h in a staggering 2.5 seconds, or as quick as the Bugatti Veyron. Top speed will be well over 300km/h.

Stephan Winklemann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said of the Sesto Elemento, “It is our abilities in carbon-fibre technology that have facilitated such a forward-thinking concept, and we of course also benefit from the undisputed lightweight expertise of Audi AG. Systematic lightweight engineering is crucial for future super sports cars: for the most dynamic performance, as well as for low emissions. We will apply this technological advantage right across our model range. Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento.”

The entire monocoque cell is made from carbon-fibre, as is, the front frame, exterior panels and crash boxes. Even the car’s major suspension parts and the wheels are fabricated from carbon-fibre. It’s nothing less than a tour de force in lightweight automotive construction.

The naturally aspirated V10 will be high-revving, super responsive and when you factor in the super low weight and all-wheel drive, the Sesto Elemento should do corners like no other sports car on earth. Braking power should also be exceptional, as will be turn-in.

Even the car’s tailpipes are fashioned from an exotic composite called Pyrosic, which is a highly advanced glass-ceramic matrix composite, able to withstand temperatures of up to 900 degrees celcius.

Like all cars built at Sant’Agata, the Sesto Elemento is an image beauty and pure unadulterated power, but in a cutting edge design. Sharp lines, and precise angles accentuate the wedge like stance of the car. The triangle shape is a recurring theme in the design and is featured around the door handle and the air outlets in the bonnet and along the roof.

Aerodynamics has always been a key part of Lamborghini’s latest designs and the Sesto Elemento is no exception. The carbon fibre rear spoiler is perfectly matched to the rear diffuser, even the angle of attack, is the same.

The super sharp headlamp assemblies enclose bi-xenon lights and 4 LEDs and sit perfectly above the double-lipped front spoiler with distinct air intakes

Inside the car is just as cutting edge as the exterior, and again, the triangle shape forms a dominant part of the dash.

The instrument panel is a driver’s only set-up, with the focus being on engine and road speed. There are only three piezoelectric buttons on the centre console – engine start, reverse gear, and lights.

For all the teaser pics that Lamborghini PR has leaked over the past few months, the Sesto Elemento has been well worth the wait. I’m betting that this concept becomes a production car reality in the not too distant future. Let’s hope so.
