Mitsubishi, Peugeot & Citroen to build electric Partner & Berlingo

By Alborz Fallah |

The continuing automotive partnership between the French and the Japanese runs deeper than just Renault and Nissan. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and PSA Peugeot Citroën have had an on-going fruitful partnership for the last few years. So much so that the Peugeot 4007 is actually built by Mitsubishi (based on the Outlander platform).

However the biggest benefit the French are getting from Mitsubishi is access to electric vehicle technology. For example, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is also being built as a Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-ZERO.

To further add to that, a joint announcement from both companies today marks the start of technical development for an electric version of Peugeot Partner and Citroën Berlingo LCVs.

The technology share will see the electric variants built at the PSA Vigo plant in Spain by the end of 2012.

Absolutely useless! Commercial vehicles generally do more k’s then a normal car, so they need a bigger range.
Not to mention what will happen to the range with a decent load on board. This technology might be viable in the future, just not yet.
