BMW X1 spy photos
December 5, 2007 by Alborz Fallah
BMW is expanding. The German luxury maker is working on an even smaller X series, dubbed the X1. Officially announced in late September, the X1 is expected to be about the same size as the new Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4.
Although smaller in size, BMW has not gone for the cheap option, the X1 will still be a full time four-wheel-driver, sharing its all-paw layout, raised ride-height and plastic body cladding with the upcoming Mini off-roader.
No need to rush to BMW showrooms however, the X1 is due in Europe towards the middle of 2010. So Australia will most likely see the car early 2011.
Engines and much of the car’s interior trim is expected to be sourced from the 1-series. Reports from Germany insist that a full hybrid version is unlikely to get the green light on cost grounds.
BMW expects the X1’s core audience to be made up of successful women. Tell us what you think, will it stack up against Audi’s Q3 and the Mini off-roader?

AHHH…The SUVs are getting smaller!
Thats a 1 series with the X-drive drivetrain under it? They’re shoving that system into everything now.
That Mini….thing..is VULGAR!
Not sure if it’ll be a high-volume seller like the X5 and X3, but if they have optimistic sales targets it’ll have to look better than that Audi, which looks pretty hot – for a chick’s car :)
The ONLY question one has to ask, why did BMW take so long to think and bring this to market?
$40k++ they will sell MILLIONS of them
Watch as Bemz/Audi/Lexus clone the theme and come out with its own.
Cheers

**VOTE-NOW!**
I don’t trust Chris Bangle, hope its not another one of his uglier Frankenstein creations.
If it turns out looking like the 1-Series, imagine having to look at millions of these on the road…yuk!
Hey Godspeed!!!!!!This is one chick who wouldn’t have one!
BMW and Toyota should team up!!!Both want to dominate the market ………It seems at the detriment of design in BMW and quality and reliability in Toyota!!!!!!! God do we need another SUV????????
Don’t say “reliability” with Toyota..GGGGGGGRRRRR! WE SHOULD ALL KNOW WHY!
hah look at that mini how cute
the x1 don look that good to me. :)
If it’s anything like the X3, save your money. You’ll never go offroad.
what a silly car. probably sell heaps of them.
