Saab 9-4X pre-production model spy shot

Remember the Saab 9-4X concept from a few months ago? Well, the design was all just a concept at that stage but recent images released onto the net expose a pre-production model which looks exactly the same as the concept.

This is great news because we liked the look of the 9-4X concept, although seeing it again the styling is likely to age fairly quickly as the clean-cut design might not cut through the swoops and exotic shapes near-future cars will offer. Still, here and now, the car looks fantastic.

Originally posted on Autoblog, this shot was apparently snapped at the Saab United showroom where the car stood in pre-production form. It appears to be exactly the same as the concept model. This is good stuff, normally concept-to-production cars hold little similarities leaving potential consumers a little disappointed. With this though, it looks as modern and fresh as the original.

Although Saab is now owned by Spyker (previously owned by General Motors), reports say because the car was developed and based on the Cadillac SRX platform the likely engine to sit under the bonnet will be the 2.8-litre turbocharged V6, of GM. There also could be an 'eco' 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine on offer, typical to Saab's previous lineup.

Saab will officially unveil the 9-4X at the Los Angles Motor Show in November so we'll have to wait until then for definite specifications. Look out for more details and images in the near future though.
