Isuzu D-MAX Limited Edition II

Isuzu UTE has celebrated its second year of operation in Australia with the launch of the Isuzu D-MAX Limited Edition II 4x4 crew cab ute.

The company, which is wholly owned by Mitsubishi, has managed to fight its way into the tough Australian market in the last two years to take a respectable slice in the commercial utility segment.

It has managed to do this by offering the quality built D-Max at competitive prices and focusing more on fleet sales.

Nonetheless the private buyers are still a big part of Isuzu's business (around 40 percent) and for those looking at a high-end luxury packed 4x4 utility, the new D-Max Limited Edition II is definitely worth considering.

Only 180 of the limited edition have been built and 140 are available in Lunar white with the remaining 40 coming in Solar Bronze.

The Isuzu D-Max Limited Edition II is built upon the high-end and most popular D-MAX variant, the LS-U 4x4 crew cab ute.

According to Isuzu, the Limited Edition II comes packed with at least $9,000 worth of additional equipment but only sees a price rise of $5,000 over the LS-U. Roughly half the 180 are available in Automatic and the other half in manual.

The most notable feature of the Limited Edition II D-MAX is the high-end Kenwood Audio system which packs a touch screen hi-fi system capable of DVD playback, USB, iPod/iPhone connectivity plus bluetooth support. Of course it will do the regular CD/FM/AM/MP3 playback as well. Sound is pumped through a six speaker system.

Interestingly, the Kenwood headunit comes with a Garmin powered Satellite Navigation system which also incorporates a reversing camera unit (a great feature on a vehicle this size). Additional changes to the interior include polished aluminum door sill scuff plates and, if you must, custom carpet mats.

If you're willing to spend an additional $2,400, you can get gorgeous silver-stitched Charcoal Italian leather trim on the front seats. This covers the entire seat as well as door trim inserts and the centre console padded elbow rest.

From the outside, the limited edition II is noticed thanks to its unique side steps (with polished aluminium step inserts) with rubber grip stipples, chrome nudge and sports bar, fog light recess bezels, taillight guards and bonnet protector.

Being based on the LS-U D-MAX, the Limited Edition II models come standard with

  • air-conditioning,
  • ABS with EBD,
  • cruise control,
  • projector headlights,
  • lockable tailgate,
  • rubber tub floor mat
  • remote entry,
  • electric windows with one-touch driver’s glass up and down,
  • dual airbags,
  • fold-in power door mirrors with turn indicators,
  • dual-bin padded centre console,
  • electro-luminescent instrument display,
  • rear LSD,
  • chrome rear step bumper
  • 16"x7"alloy wheels (245/70) including the spare.

The Isuzu D-MAX 4x4 has a three-tonne maximum tow capacity and 225mm ground clearance. Changing between 2WD/4WD is done via a push-button on the dash. The change can occur on-the-fly at speeds up to 100 km/h.

Prices for the Isuzu D-MAX Limited Edition II start from $47,300 (without leather seats and on-road costs). Isuzu now has over 60 dealers nationwide and is expanding its network rapidly.
