2011 KTM X-Bow R with 224kW Audi S3 engine

Looking a bit like a mechanical wasp lurking in the Eifel mountains, the guys at KTM have taken the 2008 KTM X-Bow and given it some more venom to go with its sting. This is what it looks like.

The original X-BOW was generally regarded as a fairly serious track weapon, but some professional drivers noted that it was a bit 'soft' in the world of open-top, bees-in-your-mouth, road registered track cars.

KTM has come up with an answer though, and it's this 2011 KTM X-Bow R version. It will come with a more powerful Audi 2.0-litre engine outputting 224kW instead of the old 179kW donk when it's released next year. Avid Audi fans may recognise that power figure and they would be right to point out that it is indeed the Audi S3 engine.

Other awesome features include the addition of more carbon fibre shards shielded over the KTM's body, and a unique cockpit 'tub' surround that doubles as a downforce agent with its ramped shape.

Reports say this car is just a prototype being tested around the Nurburgring with more details expected to be released next year. Reports also say that old KTM X-Bow owners will be able to buy most of these parts as upgrades for their older models.

It definitely looks like fun.
