2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK new spy shots inside and out

The next generation 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK looks as though it will offer a much more modern and flush design than the frilly existing model.

Here we see the new SLK prototype being driving around suburbs with very little camouflaging. Just a few strips of black sheeting over the edges of the car, revealing straighter more crisp contours.

The new SLK features less-fussy wheels too, simple five-spoke design suits well with the clean-cut panels and trimmings.

From the rear we can see the smoothed convex boot shape with integrated lip spoiler. There's also a new boot-mounted shark-fin aerial. Twin exhausts give the car a more masculine look than the existing model.

Almost mimicking the Mercedes-Benz SLS front end, the design harks back to Merc's flat block-type bonnet design of the Seventies and Eighties. Neater headlights are more serious than the existing model's.

From the angle above, we can see just how pronounced that long, flat bonnet is. Notice the only frilly bits on the car are the side mirrors, which have two cuts in them to expose Merc's traditional mirror-mounted indicator lights.

Inside, there's a lot going on and it's almost hard to distinguish foundation detail. We can see some finer details though, including the four-spoke aviation-style air vents which also hark back to earlier designs. Notice the neat flap over most of the centre fascia controls, hiding the layout.

The steering wheel is typically sporty as per usual future Mercedes-Benz model spy shots.

Engines are expected to vary from a BlueEfficiency 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel four cylinder, outputting 152kW and a whopping 500Nm, to a rumoured 3.5-litre twin-turbo AMG-developed V6 for the sports model, developing over 280kW. Although some reports have claimed to have heard the SLK AMG version in spy conditions belting out sounds only V8s are capable of.

Look out for more details very soon as speculations say the car will be on display at the Paris Motor Show next month.
