Aston Martin ONE-77: World’s Most Powerful Naturally Aspirated Road Car Engine

By Anthony Crawford |

Aston Martin’s One-77 is without question the world’s most exclusive production car, and is being readied for production.

Powered by a bespoke 7.3-litre V12 engine, which has been certified at 750bhp and 750Nm of torque, it has claimed the title of the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated production engine for a road car.

As the ultimate expression of the famed Aston Martin marque, the One-77 is a both a complex and an extremely difficult project to undertake.

Best described by Aston’s CEO Dr Ulrich Bez, who says the task is “like building seventy-seven one-offs”, as each car is utterly hand built.

The One-77 has been put through an extensive test programme over the last nine months, including extreme hot and cold climate work, as well as a sign-off at Nurburgring’s Nordschliefe, the world’s most demanding race circuit.

The first customer deliveries will commence in early 2011.

  • Carl

It is not the “most powerful production engine for a roadcar”. What about the Veyron?

Carl, the Veyron has 4 turbos. I was very clear when I said “naturally aspirated”. You know what that means, right?

      • Carl

The text read “most powerful production engine for a roadcar”. You, or someone else has since rewritten it to read “most powerful naturally aspirated production engine for a road car”

Did you not bother to read the title!

…Aaaah, Dr Ulrich Bez…suspected there’d be a german in there somewhere.

  • Hung Low

Nice to see a big grunty atmo engine make a return when everyone is going the turbo route!

I think its been a while since the production 1967 dual carby fed Ford 427 cammer was knocked off its perch!
657Hp and 771nm of grunt! Pretty impressive for a 7.1 liter V8 from the 60′s

Mr Low, I would suggest that those figures for power and torque, being as they are from the 1960′s (an era I know well) would most likely be SAE gross figures. To compare to modern day ISO nett outputs, you would need to discount them by approximately 30% and then convert them to the equivalent kilowatt and Newton-metre figures. Though, I agree for their day, the 427 cammer was a most impressive piece of colonial engineering.

      Regards,
      James.

Q is preparing my own car now. I imagine he has made it somewhat more bespoke in his own lethal fashion.

By the way Miss Moneypenny, did you happen to notice that my anti-spam word was SLR?

Huge engine. It comes to 102.7 HP/liter. BMW M6 Coupe is very close 101.4 HP/Liter from 4999 cc engine with 507 HP at 7750 rpm. 0 to 100 in 4.6 sec
