2008 Lamborghini Murciélago SV
November 30, 2007 by George Skentzos
Lamborghini is set to release a special edition Murciélago monster to rival both the feather weight Superleggera and bold Reventon which is to carry the SV or “Sport Veloce” namesake not seen since the days of the Diablo.
Sources indicate that it will have even more power than the 478kW V12 Reventon, and also shed at least 110kg from the LP640’s 1,665kg body.
Most of this weight loss will be achieved by removing the front differential and driveshafts, effectively making the SV rear-wheel drive.
In addition, most of the interior – from door skins to seat shells – will be replaced with carbon fibre, even going so far as to replace the door handles with a pull strap, all-up saving 2.5kg per door.

This Murcielago R-GT is a good indication of what it may look like.
Electronic systems such as for the adjustable spoiler will go, instead opting for a choice of two fixed carbon fibre rear-wings. Forged lightweight alloy wheels will save at least 6kg per corner also.
The SV will feature E-gear as standard, not only for prestige and pedigree, but also because it saves weight over a conventional manual.
Sources speculate output may rise to as high as 507kW and 699Nm from what may be the final iteration of the 6.5-litre V12 engine.
As a result of sending so much power to just two wheels, Lamborghini has also heavily revised the traction control system to keep the horses in check.
It could also be the fastest shifting Lamborghini to date, dropping from the current 0.4 to just 0.2 seconds between gear changes.

Not ‘effectively’ making it rear drive, but ‘actually’ making it rear drive. That is what happens when you remove the drive mechanism from the front wheels.
Actually this should be quite an effective lambo for those who are affected!
Mate, they are synonymous with one another. What else did you think it meant?
It really has a Big spoiler(rear wing) at the back!
Please…please…anything but the wing…anything!!!
As it says in the caption, the images are of the R-GT – not the SV, they are merely for illustration purposes, official images are yet to be released.
Hey George……you our host tonight?
Yep.wing is a little ricer!!!!
Well, it’s gonna be a monster anyway! Though the AWD system still wou;d’ve been nice, but anything to lighten it!
I’ll buy one only if the lamborgini dealer gives me a good trade figure for my 94 falcon with over 200k on the odometer lol!
I must say though to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a car with no options and pull strap door handles is pretty ludicrous
Pure automotive porn! me likey very much…
Its not rice – I’m sure the wing has some sort of function. Maybe…
My understanding is that the standard Murcielago can’t be driven at ten-tenths, at the limit it cannot hold the line and snap you are off the road.
So, with over 110kg shed off the weight and now without AWD, the weight distribution and handling will be very different to the standard car. As such other forms of dynamic assistance has to used.
A competitive driver will also NEED to adjust the car’s handling to suit the track and his individual driving style, hence the visually aggressive adjustable areo kit.
Its not rice if you use it on the track.
Momo, I presume you have derived that conclusion from Top Gear, which is true as far as I am aware. However I think the ten-tenths issue originated from the AWD system itself.
The fact was the AWD system provided an incredible amount of grip, however as soon as you exceeded its limits, it let go and all hell broke loose.
With only two wheels being driven, it will be far more manageable for a talented driver, because as soon as you push the limits of the car, you just leave two great black lines in your wake and an incredible amount of smoke with glorious oversteer.
George, I am not going to comment on the AWD system being the culprit, it may or may not be. How did you come to that conclusion? Have you actually analysed the snap against Motec acquired data?
Its not uncommon for mid-rear engine cars to snap at the limits due to weight shift, even if the spec say perfect 50:50 weight distribution. It can snap due to suspension setup and tire choice/wear rate alone.
If you can be certain about the car being easier to drive on two wheels, good for you. But I won’t jump to that conclusion based on speculation.
George, I don’t know if the AWD system is the primary culprit. But its not uncommon for mid-rear engine cars to snap at the limits due to weight shift, even if the spec say perfect 50:50 weight distribution. It can snap due to suspension setup and tire choice/wear rate alone.
I do share your enthusiasm on RWD oversteering that is untainted by the AWD system.
i hope its nice rice
interesting to see how they manage that much power to the rear wheels. now u really got to tame the bull.
AMG didnt have much luck with thier triturbo amg models
actually I would opp for a bigger wing…
A BIG “SPOILER” (literally) on an old ironing board with wheels.
A superb colour for a stunning car. The side Skirts and the spoilers are very sporty.Truly a First Love.
