2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS update with Australian prices

Yet another Porsche 911 model to add to the range. Porsche has just announced the details of the upcoming 2011 Porsche Carrera GTS coupe and cabriolet.

The bodywork of the GTS will match that of the widened Carrera 4 variant whilst maintaining rear-wheel drive. The engine is more powerful than the simple Carrera S, so it offers 304kW instead of the 283kW.

Basically, Porsche has slotted this car in between the Carrera S, Carrara 4 and the GT3; which makes it the Sport Classic. The Sport Classic was limited to just 250 units though, so Porsche has decided, it seems, to quench Sport-Classic hungry enthusiasts with this GTS. Get it?

Other than the obvious wide body, the GTS will be set apart from the Carrera S with the addition of lovely, chrome-rimmed 19 inch RS Spyder wheels. There's also minor changes to the front and rear bars and a black Alcantara trim.

The new model will debut at the Paris Show early next month and then hit the showrooms in early 2011. Prices start at US$103,100 for the coupe and US$112,900 for the cabriolet.

*Update
The Australian editions will offer 17 more kilowatts than the Carrera S (300kW compared to 283kW) and 420Nm of torque (same as Carrera S) yet consume no more fuel than the Carrera S. This means it'll match the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) consumption test of 10.2L.100km.

Porsche has said the new GTS will be available in Australian showrooms from January 2011. Prices start at $270,100 for the coupe and $288,700 for the cabriolet.
