Ghostbusters car for sale

By Anthony Crawford |

Please tell me you remember the movie ‘Ghostbusters’, otherwise I’m going to feel too much like an ‘old guy’.

Truth be said, the movie was released way back in 1984 and did some huge numbers at the box office, which led the way to two sequels, but please don’t ask me to recall all movies in the franchise.

I’m more interested in ‘Ecto 1’, that’s the name they gave to the company van, which was actually a 1959 Cadillac S&S Ambulance with a 6.5-litre V8 – king of the fuel guzzlers.

Little wonder why too, with dimensions such as 6.1 metres (20 ft) long, 1.98 metres (6.5 ft) wide and weighing in at 2.55 tonnes, this thing is a serious heavyweight.

If you can afford to feed it, then it’s yours for just AUD$126,000 (US$115,000) but unless it runs on LPG, you probably wouldn’t be able to get it registered.

  • The Realist

I think it was only the one sequel…

they are in fact making a third movie atm. The originals will be in it. but they are passing the roles onto new guys to take over the ghost busting business. should be good :) ecto one is awesome btw

  • Andronicus

Yes there was only one sequel. You’re not the only person who thinks they made three movies. My sister after all these years still swears there was a ghostbusters 3. Afraid not.

  • The other Brad

There’s a Ghostbusters 3 in development and due for release in 2012 (check out IMDB).

Find the recent interview with GQ did with Bill Murray and he has confirmed it has stalled and is dead in the water. Unfortunately.
Original is still one of my fave movies of all time.

I just noticed the doors are not symmetrical on either side.

must be for something ambulance specific?

  • WeeMadHamish

The photos are of two different cars. That’s why the doors look different. The roof details are also different.

  • 74grandsport

i believe the bottom photo is the correct one, the cadillac used in ghostbusters was built by miller-meteor and known as a futura.

  • Moey

    Ugly….. There’s better things for $126000

    • Simo

it is just a movie memorabilia for people with too much money and love collecting real size cars i.e. Jay Leno. :)

  • moi

Sad, but that montrosity weighs about the same as a Disco or Q7 or BMW X5m

    So much for progress!

The replica car that’s for sale is an S&S. The real screen-used car is a Miller Meteor. Completely different coach builders. As far as replicas go there’s some better ones around, this one’s fairly average to be honest.
