i find it annoying that motoring journo`s place so much emphasis on kilowatts, an enormous 200 kilowatts does`nt mean much with a piddling 340 nm at a high 4400? rpm, try towing something with minimal torque at high revs, it won`t be a pleasant experience, or economical, even just going through hilly terrain the auto would be bouncing up and down through the gears, class leading ???

Obviously you have never driven an Aurion...I just recently traded in my 07 VE Calais V6 for a 2010 Aurion Sportivo..I have to say that the VE has NOTHING on the Aurion. The VE had more rattles and squeals than a baby's toy..The Aurion out powers the VE MASSIVELY..The VE was so problematic with the HVAC system and electrics. The engine was thirsty, gutless and sounded like a run-away shopping trolley @3000rpm+.
Interior plastics and garnishes where starting to come apart to early.
@68000km, i expected more than what i got from the VE.. that was the 1st Holden i ever owned and will be my last!!
The Aurion is superb in every way.. I cant even notice it being a FWD.( only burnout heads bitch about FWD's)
So as for the VE, You cant polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter..

From the looks of things, you guys just hate holden..
I'm a university student and I`m doing business&marketing ( I also have worked for a car yard for 3 years). One of the assessments I have recently been given asked me to compare a Holden Commodore and a Toyota Aurion. From my studies & experiences through work and outside work, I would consider buying a Holden VE over a Toyota Aurion anyday. The only thing a Toyota Aurion has going for it is fuel economy. The company I work for has had a fair few customers come in looking at Aurions with high expectations, but coming back very disappointed after a test drive.
Another reason why I dont like Aurions is Queensland Police use them as undercover cars :P haha.

I wouldn't say outdated, just ordinary. What was once almost a Toyota exclusive (reliability) is now common across most makes- heck even the VE and FG cars are fairly reliable

Funny how dramatically the Aussie car landscape has changed in a few short years. The once technologically deficient Locals (toyota doesnt count) Ford and Holden, have leaped far ahead of the Big-T. Things like EcoBoost engines, 6spd standard, touch screen infotainment systems, dual clutch transmissions, powerful diesels and small turbo's, radar cruise controls, voice recognition, LPI systems, BLIZ systems. In a few short years, Toyota have been left totally outrun in the technology department. While they still offer very good value levels, they no longer rule the roost, and in all honesty they just make outdated cars now.

Hmmm, seems you're just a poor driver or hopeless Holden disciple, there was nothing wrong with the car itself in your comment ..

Rented 2 cars from Avis in Darwin this past week and drove about the same distance in each, filling up at the same servo just before returning them. Car 1: brand new Toyo Corolla with 35 km on the clock. Car 2: FG FALCON with 600 km on the clock. Identical fuel consumption, 8L/100 km. Says it all for me.
