2008 Mazda2 Sedan revealed
The exquisite Mazda2 broke the mold when it proved a micro hatch could be both attractive and practical, achieving the impossible to be recognised as Car of the Year in Japan.
Following its success, Mazda has released a preview of the Mazda2 sedan in anticipation for its official debut at the 2007 Guangzhou Motor Show in China this week.
It’s fleeting resemblance to the new Ford Mondeo is no coincidence, with manufacturing to be carried out by the Changan Ford Mazda joint-venture at a factory in Nanjing.
Production on the sedan for the Chinese market has already begun, although with no official word, it is unclear if Mazda are planning to release the sedan to other markets.

What is it with these micro sedans and looking so damn ugly? Echo and Yaris sedan, Barina sedan, and now this? The Mazda 2 hatch is such a good looking car but the sedan? No thanks!

This looks fantastic.
Too bad it’ll be wasted on the Chinese market

i dont really see the point of a mirco sedan- tiny hatches are there for a reason-> small and easy to park in cities while usually having a large storage area. making it into a sedan is pointless as matt pointed out- echo, yaris and barina sedans are totally pointless cars

Is it just me or do the wheels look to small for the body? The rear end looks to have some serious overhang too! Not good. Hatch looks stacks better.

To me the rear end looks more like the new Mazda 6.

Small sedans normally look like their wheels are too small and rear overhang is large.
IMO small sedans are marketed at those who want to pretend they are driving a bigger car then they actually are OR grannys who prefer the look of sedan compared to the hatch version.

The highly sloped character line and the rear design make this car pretty ugly.

These pictures give a much better view and imo this sedan looks very good for the size of vehicle.

wholy crap, it would be difficult to see out the back of that.

hey when its said it looks ugly what is it being compared to? A Porsche?
when you compare it to others in the same class it looks a hell of a lot better than others.
i think its good to see that small cars dont have to look “googly eyed”

i think visibility would be ok out of the back. the sloping lines on the doors make the back seem higher than it is
if you draw a line from the headreast over the boot it seems like it should have good visibility

I have a green man DSC Genki on order and I would prefer a hatch over a sedan anyday…2, 3 or 6 look more sporty. If there is a niche there to sell 2 sedans so be it but not for me…thou a 3 door MPS 2 would be nice.

Hatch-derived sedans hardly work as far as design is concerned. Toyota Yaris, Honda City (ASEAN Jazz-based sedan), Suzuki SX4 and the like, are just dorky, and this small Mazda is no exception. The only decent-looking sedan I know of is the Golf-inspired VW Jetta. It’s not the handsomest, but it does work.

The Toyota Yaris sedan does not share a single panel with the hatch, and was designed in a completely different studio.
I also think it looks (apart from the weird front) more ‘normal’ than this Mazda 2, which has that strange looking side, which I don’t particularly like.

Who cares if the yaris sedan and hatch do or don’t share panels? The mazda 3 hatch and sedan don’t share any planels either. Yaris sedan looking better than the 2 sedan!?
Ok…
Now i know why toyota sell well :))

This sedan is just too angular, it’s so ugly it makes the hatch look pretty good. I want a re-release of the 1994 121 Bubble Sedan, 1.5L, 5 speed manual, in purple thanks :0)
