The light car segment is about to heat up with the arrival of the Audi A1, but for car enthusiasts, the Audi S1 will be the variant to look for. Caught recently by our photographers is this S1 prototype pictured below.
Despite Audi tradition and some sources suggesting otherwise, Audi is reportedly going with a front-wheel-drive setup for the S1, meaning it will be the first car in the S range that is powered by only tw0 wheels.
Using by the same engine as the Volkswagen Polo GTI, the Audi S1 will make use of a twin-charged 1.4-litre TFSI four cylinder powerplant capable of 136 kW and around 250 Nm of torque. 0-100km/h times are still unconfirmed but should be in the low to mid 6 seconds.
The Audi S1 will be the cheapest entry into Audi’s exclusive S-Range to date. Australian pricing is still unconfirmed.
