2009 Subaru Forester sneak preview

This image which has been circulating the web is supposedly an official sketch of the 2009 model Subaru Forester.
The new model will share the same all-wheel drive platform as used in the current Impreza range, with significant modifications for off-road use. Engine choices are also expected to mirror those featured in the Impreza line up.
Expect an official debut within the next few months, more than likely to occur at the Detroit Auto Show.

Here we go again with Subaru.
Either they build argueably the ugliest cars on Earth or they rip off other’s, in this case it resembles a Lexus. . . .
What about something fresh and exciting in design like, the new Mitsubishi Lancer or even the sexy Merc C Class?

Ironic that Steven A mentions Lexus and Mercedes then F-O talks of OVERATED BRANDs. Only omitted Toyota on that list.
Subarus are rated highly by those that have first hand experience, and canned by those that do not.

Nose is ok for a Subaru effort.Has it grown? style of rear quarter panel looks like it has created a blind spot that current model doesn’t have. Driven current model often for work - easy to live with only complaint is rear seat legroom.

Forgot to mention that Sub. owners [like haonda before] are very FICKLE, watch them go all gaga about me calling the brand over-rated.
FACT:Its just another Japper brand, no better, no worse [soon to be totally owned by Toyota anyway!]

What I go gaga about is the “Frugal One”’s rants which have no value to anyone. Can’t spell and can’t get things right either (eg. that Volvo thread…)
Unfortunately that sketch is so vague, we won’t really be able to judge if it is a dog until we see the real thing. The wheels look ok though !

SHOWS you how much FRUGAL ONE knows, toyota will never own
100% of subaru they only have 6% share hold at moment.the
rest is owned by FHI (fuji heavy industries) which is a
huge global company and they are SUBARU,SUBARU is the
trading name for the car division of FHI..
FROM what ive been told by people who have seen the real
new forester it is awesome ,bigger and alot more modern…
so get your facts straight TOYOTA has no say in the day
to day running of subaru and never will;..

So will we get an STI in the Wagon from Subaru? Would make a lot Dads happy that want a STI but have to buy something sensible for the family……..
Any of you ever had that look from a mid 30s male at the traffic lights looking at your performance car sitting in his very grown up yet boring base model something!…..they look like their thinking….”if only I would have stayed single I wouldn’t be driving this boring piece of crap!”

Looks good.
Subaru\’s are very good car makers period.
You can argue about looks but thats it… most Subaru cars especially the upper models are worth the money.
And Toyota owns 6% of FHI, Subaru is a small part of FHI, Toyota is rumoured.. ahem, expected to increase ownership in the near future. Also highly interested in purchasing all of Subaru.
Good thing, the engineering possibilities is huge. Even though Subaru might under go changes due to emission controls.

Looks good. Lets hope the sketch is a good indication of the finished product and not something completely fanciful. Subaru have always seemed to make a better job of Forester styling than Impreza styling.

At least it looks like a better effort than the Imprezza.
Hopefully they don’t put in a dud engine like the 5 or 6 my mates Liberty wagon had (has). Luckily it’s a lease car.
I got turned off by Subaru when the Imprezza went with the round headlights, then they fixed it, but engine gremlins came along to the party (as mentioned above).
Then the Imprezza went fugly again. And at the motorshow in Sydney, it was surrounded by beige pants wearing 80 year olds. Their pants matched the interior!
Otherwise the car looks good. And as far as Toyota is concerned. They could probably use a few tips on how to make a car with what little character the Japs know how to do. They are as boring as cardboard.

Wow … if this is the how the new 2009 Forester will look like, it will make a worthy stablemate to the STI that I will be getting this March.

looks like it has pillars, asid from obviousugly 7 copied lines for the new impreza range, the most disappointing thing for me is that subaru look to moving to pillars across the range, impreza, tribeca and now forester??? STOP IT!

I have a 2006 Forester and do some four wheel driving, including some very steep country. It has better traction than all the big four wheelers I have driven, including those with diff locks. On two occasiosn we had to offload the big ones and ferry the people in to the destination in the Forester. But then I had similar cases with my old Brumby where the big Nissans and Toyotas coudn’t get between the trees and around the rock ledges.
Every time I am at a function where there are 4 wheel drivers I am told that the Forester is not a 4 wheeler but an all wheel drive highway car. They really do exude the ‘my —- is bigger than yours’ syndrome. The Forester certainly is the 4 wheeler that other 4 wheelers love to hate.
The only short coming is the high gearing in low range combined with a short stroke motor means that I have to keep revs above 2,500 rpm to be in the torque range on steep inclines.
I look forward to the new model.
