Pininfarina in financial trouble

Pininfarina logoItalian design firm Pininfarina is in serious financial trouble. The company has lost 39.1 million euros in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 22.8 million euros over the same period in 2006.

Pininfarina has designed (and built) some of the best looking cars in the world today, such as the Ferrari Enzo, Maserati Quattroporte, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, Volvo C70, Ferrari 599, Ford Focus CC and most recently, the Maserati GranTurismo.

Of course the company has had its hand in some of the not so good looking cars in the world, such as the Mitsubishi Colt Cabriolet.

Pininfarina now hopes to search for new partners in its contract manufacturing activities such as its recent deals with Volvo and Ford. Surveys have found that the Pininfarina name is the biggest asset for the company, a reputation the company will surely exploit.

NOT good, Bertone went down this very same path.

Gone are the days when they designed good cars.

Sad to see this news. My beloved 405 was designed by them. It still looks good 17 years later.

In reply to ELITIST(with a name like that he or she must be a complete tosser), yes it was a shame that Ghia went broke and had to be sold but such is life.As far as calling Fairmont, Laser and other Ghia badged Fords rubbish, well judging by your recent comments,I don’t think you would know a good car even if it (hopefully)ran you over.By the way, I drive a Ford Territory Ghia Turbo with around 300kw/570nm and the rest to go with it,and I love meeting your mates with their ELITE Beemers/Mercs etc and showing them just how much rubbish Ford Ghia’s are.

Sad to see this news piece.

They have designed some of the best cars in the world. I mean just their badge increases the value of a car….

I hope they recover and keep making good looking cars! I would hate it if all the cars on the road started looking like Toyota Echo Sedan and the Yaris Sedan! Ableit good cars, they look ugly!
