It may be a bit smarter than Yemma, but don't be fooled - the Vic government has been indexing registration fees for quite a few years now, and are ripping millions of dollars out of motorists pockets for no added value. On top of this, they are ripping hundreds of millions of dollars out of the TAC premiums, rather than properly paying accident victims.

They have had the opportunity for years to reduce costs for such things as small cars, LPG cars, etc.

This latest is just a token stunt. After all, the ADR should not permit a car to be sold without the kinds of items he is advocating. I know ADR is Federal, but it is entirely possible to have Victorian laws that set minimum standards for cars sold new in VIC to have these items.

The good news for Brumby would be that he could continue the registration gouge......
