According to road safety statistics of the Queensland Road Safety Authority (Queensland Transport 2005) they indicate that there were over 100,000 accidents in Queensland in the period 1999–2003 and therefore represent roughly one quarter of one per cent of these accidents, yes that right – 0.4% of all accidents in QLD were coursed by hoons!!!

Being a strict liability offence means that it is almost impossible to prove innocence, unless you have evidence to present in court that proves you didn’t commit the crime.

I have to say i drive 2 cars the first being a 4 door family car that i have never been pulled over in. And my Race built car road registered i drive occasionally on weekends. That gets pulled over every time i drive it. and usually end up with a defect for somehting that was eaither a. legal on the car or b. somehting sutpid like no H pattern on a gear knob as a rust bucket with blown rings is belting blue smoke down the highway 10k’s over on bald tyres. Biast much? On several instances i have had police ridicule my rwd nissan and say why would you evan bother with this? Anyway back to the point

It’s funny how people say Oh they are police they never do anything wrong they are the law we must obey. That is tarring a specific group with one brush. Just like they do to us car enthusiasts. Sure there are police out there who drink drive home sell drugs and arms and all sorts of ridiculous things. And there are also idiots who decide to do 200k’s through george street in there mothers lancer they put stickers and an air filter on.

There are extremes to both sides. I for one have never been treated by respect when being pulled over by a member of the NSW Highway Patrol. They allways follow you turn on the siren geton the loud speaker “Pull over driver” in the middle of peak hour traffic on paramatter road when u are coming home late form work.

And it is always for a random breath test that they happen to randomly do a u turn chase you 500 meters down the road then decide to say “we are now going to perform a defect inspection” sit you there for half an hour while they sit in there car reading your engineer papers test every light in the car. ask you to rev your motor to see if you have a blow off valve.

I for one am sick of it! what sort of society do we live in. Its like american police walking down the street seeing a man of African descent and saying sir we are now going to search you for drugs and weapons when he was doing nothing wrong. there was a reporting of a robbery get in the back of the car your going to jail.

If this isnt police flexing the old authority muscle then i dont know what is. I would for once in my life like a Highway patrol officer to show me the respect i show him, rather then you having to put your tail in between your legs stroke his ego and suck his cock in the hope he wont send you to the EPA for something you have had checked twice!

How many times have people here been to a bar been asked to leave because you are intoxicated “after 2 beers” refuse ot leave and then get man handled by the man for being a public menance. Then you ask for the police officers name or badge number so u can report him u end up with cuffs on and taken around the back and being belted. But no people dont think these things happen “if you where just sitting there doing nothing its because you stood up and said hey thats not right i havnt done anything wrong and htey dont want to hear it”

Same thing with this law officer i wasnt speading thats it out of the car dont get smart with me brings in a tow truck stretchs the almighty power trip and shows that person who was boss so he can go home trying to feel better about himself.

yet when my car gets broken into they come 1 week later to take prints.

Police should start policing criminals… how many times have you seen “bikies” cruising down the m4 over the speed limit past coppers through traffic and they do nothing.

This country has to wake up to its self.

We should be able to vote about what goes on in our country. we should have a say in the future of how we run this country. Not be told like children this is the way it is deal with it. And for speaking my mind like this people will tarnish me with the he is anti social brush because i dont like to bend over and take it up the ass. Australia needs to grow some balls and let the people work out what is best for this country.

This just means people will use fake plates when going out and if they do see flashing lights they will just leg it from the cops.

People need to put there thinking caps on when they are talking shit in politics.

That is going too far. I’m sure that many officers would be shocked to see nice cars similar to what their kids may even have crushed to scrap with thousands of cash and hours spent on it.

Fair enough don’t be irresponsible, but why not give the driver a chance to realise what they are doing before traumatising them. I’m sure many people at a young age have done stupid things that aren’t safe and it’s a phase that runs cold for most. How about confiscation of the vehicle for 3 months and in order to retrieve the vehicle, they have to pass a “Responsible Driving” course where they see graphical videos and images of what happens when it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt…take all the fun out of driving like a hoon and show the logic of it, perhaps a 3-day course? Also go over the vehicles for any illegal mods too. If the driver continued to be a hoon, then why not confiscate the vehicle and sell it at an auction? That way the police force would have more income and the car should end up in the hands of a responsible driver (ensuring their record is clean).

Another arising problem could be that if someone crushed the wrong person’s / group’s car, there could be some crazy gangs/mafias, etc that could retaliate…despite the consequence of prison. Not saying it will happen but it’s possible as anything is.

It should be properly thought through. This took me 10 minutes to think of a solution which leads to a safer and friendlier outcome. If Morris Iemma stopped taking his power-trip pills and used his brain, a much better solution could be arranged.

Not only that, most accidents aren’t caused by modified or illegal vehicles but by unmodified vehicles with a bad driver or unroadworthy. Usually high, tired, peer pressured, unaware or drunk. Every driver should learn that whenever crossing the road/lane changing or merging that they should not only check if there is a gap…but the SPEED they are going as well. That’s what catches most out in accidents. There are idiots on the roads that go in excess of speed and a lot of drivers assume that they are doing 50, 60 or whatever, when really they could be going 3 times that (hoon or real emergency). This would help in high speed crashes, even though in excess of such speed is totally irresponsible, it does still happen and when it does, it’s very grim. It’s all a part of driver awareness and hazard perception.

Proper training in a legally modified vehicle would ensure safer roads…I’m sure many would pay to have a professional help them control their modified car instead of being overconfident and really not knowing the limits of what can happen on a public road such as oily surfaces, wet, muddy, etc. Mastering your vehicles in any condition (even pedestrians crossing the road and braking hard) would increase reflex reactions and minimise the chances of casualties or fatalities of the driver, passengers or pedestrians.
