World’s first Islamic car
November 12, 2007 by Matt Brogan
Plans are afoot to build the world’s first Islamic car with Malaysia, Turkey and Iran each proposing to build a variant of a religious friendly car containing a compass that points to Mecca and a Koran compartment (similar to the glove box).
Proton’s Managing Directors Syed Zainal Abidin and Syed Mohamed Tahir said the vehicle, possibly based on the Waja sedan, would be aimed at both local and export markets and identifies a need many customers have long thought should be available in their vehicles.
With a reputation for poor quality vehicles and lacklustre sales perhaps Proton could be seen as cashing in on a need in order to make a quick buck, though you have to admit, it’s a fresh idea that will indeed find a market.
Maybe we’ll soon see a Catholic Coupe, Protestant Pick Up or Uniting Church Utility variant too.

*****PRIMO!*****
Turkey already have a large input into building a lot of Fiat’s, Doblo and the Linea sedan come to mind, which is a sexy thing.
Turkey also is the world hub for building Ford’s Transit vans.

I know it’s a Waja, but it still looks better than the Pope mobile :)
Guys, by all means comment on the Islamic car – but please leave religion out of it. Is it a good car or is it rubbish!
It’d be the safest taxi ride.
OMG! Atleast until now cars were not categorised as religious…. but i think this is a bit too much.
The next we would see Shia and Sunni cars….. with different trim levels.
This is just a case of Proton trying to make a buck from religion. I thought religion should not be used for commercial purposes?
If this Islamic Car is in a car crash- would that be God’s way of telling the driver to slow down? or is it a case of careless driving?
Well there’s probably a market for it, it’s nothing radical really. A carmaker wanting to capitalize on a market, who would have thought?
Their car makers are listening to their customers, who want an Islamic car, so they’re giving them one. In reality, it’s just a bit of customization. There’s heaps of car makers that offer customization (wheels, sunroof, paint, interior, fridge etc), why not some aimed at religious convictions?
All it is, is a compartment for a Koran and a compass, big deal. Can’t see how this would cause any sort of uproar.
how many of you have actually been to malaysia? I was born there and lived 90% of my life there. Cars there are everywhere- the average family has a car for every member and sometimes more even if they are not rich. The matter of looks or if the cars are rubbish is secondary as in the city, the fastest you can go is less than 50km/h. Plus it is a new policy in islamic countries to try and develop within themselves and trade with themselves. the logic is that why both trading with western countries who continue to critize and humiliate them? Some may say that that comment is racist and xenophobic but it is only borne out of what has been said to them- refer the racist post above.
Thanks!
Just proves that people don’t think before saying something.
Secondly, I wouldn’t go around saying you’ll tailgate someone (among other things that might get said about driving in a manner on the road that puts others lives at risk, let alone your own stupid life. Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean others don’t too.
The main reason I’d probably keep my mouth shut about that sort of driving if I were you, is that I know a few police officers who are also car enthusiasts that like to read this awesome site on a regular basis. I’ve been on forums in the past where people have been nicked for discussing certain events from a night gone past, later to find the plod on their doorstep.
Careful with what you say online, what you say in real life might be forgotten, but what you say in writing sticks.
Cheers
Steve
Please! What a gee up. Spend the money on ESP and things that will enhance safety; not on things that will be a potentaial distraction. A Koran is not any bigger than a street directory, so map pockets or a glovebox are sufficient, and a compass that points to mecca? Can someone point out the relevance of this feature whilst commuting from A-B? I think that proton is clutching at straws, and is playing the religious string, to try to divert attention away from the below par cars they build.
The Matt who wrote the line about tailgating and used the word s..t has been deleted. About time they deleted uneducated knucklheads from this great site.
Looks like people are missing the point. I’m not bringing war into anything. It’s just someone asking what I mean by a last post.
Going Ford, what about all the other Islamic countries? and what about car bombs in other part of the world?
but i get your point…
mods… please do something about the racist/sexist posts?
religion should be religion. it should be left out in these matters.
seriously screwed up mentality to even think of this mod. seems to me like a desperate company got even more desperate.
What a load of crap…I don’t care what you believe in but leave cars out of it. How gimmicky and tasteless to capitalise on peoples beliefs to sell some more cars.
You know…for all this dislike of the Western world and the way they operate…business is business in the the end
Apparently it has a beeper that sounds 5 times a day to alert you to prayers…
AND extra wide aisles to kneel in.
AND there will be a topline version named the Jihad, complete with extra large boot space for …whatever!
Lighten up everyone; if this were a Catholic car, it would be fair game for rightful humour. Can’t see any difference with a muslim one, except far more scope for jokes. It might be a car forum but scrap the political correctness – OK?
Alborz, you should also remove that stupid post from “Benjie”.
Is this World War 3 or what!!
Just a forum for hotheads.
Try developing some interpersonal skills.
For a start Islam,Christianity,Judaism have many similarities. The insensitivities displayed here are consistent with those of a long past generation.
All creeds have fundamental rights. If they wish to create a trading block within themselves well let them.I don’t perceive a threat & if there is one what can any of us do about it.Narrow conservative bigots don’t help.
My Muslim,Buddhist,Hindu,Catholic,CofE work colleagues are all OK.
I guess most of the repugnant views come from North of the
Hey David,
I notice a lot of the bad comments are being removed by the moderators. Fair enough too.
The best reference was the one about it being a marketing gimmick – that’s about all it is and all anyone should comment about given the content of the article.
At least you seem normal!
Casey.
I would like to say sorry to caradvice, but not ‘benjie’. Hope that subject will never come back. And yes David, it was like WWII with a person that jumps to the wrong conclusion. Hope that will be the past for now on.
Well said David……
If they think there is a market for them then good luck to them….doesn’t do a lot for me in looks though if thats the car they plan on peddling……
Casey,
Some need to widen their horizons with interests other than what rides on 4 wheels.
Internet conveys views to every corner including our closest Islamic neighbours. This is not fear it is respect.
Internet is a privilege, some will always abuse a privilege &treat it as a private chat room,it is not, they seem unable to consider the issues.
You are right, marketing gimmicks vary between cultures & this is not an excuse for derision.
I grudgingly watched Denton’s interview of John Laws last night, could not believe he repeated his view of Asian drivers.
Time to lighten up.
Cheers
David
Ever since I saw that idiot’s post gone, it made my day. I still can’t belive how someone could jump to the wrong concusion like that when I never said that religion was all terroists, nor was there any reason to loose the plot. David, you proving a good point there, shame you wern’t around when the bad-tempered idiot was around.
Now I wait for that back-stabbing BS artist soon to say more BS and it has no reason to say it…..
Strage thing for a car to have…BTW, it looks like that tosser is gone, posts like that goes to show how stupid a single person can be…….
this thread was always going to bring out the wankers huh…. who cares about it…. each to there own!we shouldnt be inciting all islam followers are terrorists!
This auto maker needs to make sure the navigation system won’t offend the driver by saying the word “Shalom” or else!!!
Then there will be riots all over the world and they will burn down the car factory.
if your not here to talk about the car, get lost, no one wants to listen to it, keep you opinions to yourself…. maybe instead of using the names ziv and meat hole you should use meat head…
Good call Tonyn, I notice the moderators seem to remove these idiotic comments pretty much straight away.
This is going to close now.
