Audi R8 doppelganger

November 8, 2007 by George Skentzos

Can’t afford the price tag of Fifth Gear’s COTY winner, the Audi R8? Well as long as an Audi TT is still within your budget you needn’t worry.

UK based tuning shop Niche has developed an exterior treatment to transform your humble TT into the thoroughbred R8.

Along with the R8-inspired body panels, for an £8800 ($A20,000) price tag you will also receive nine-spoke alloy wheels, lowered suspension and dual exhaust outlets.

Does this mean the elegant TT will meet the same fate as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V, where every kid with a few hundred dollars could transform his mum’s hand-me-down 1.5-litre Lancer into the mighty Evo – stickers included? While this a kit for rich people it smacks of the same cheesy shortcut philosophy – perhaps if it had the V8 to match?

Bwahahahahaha! Ah, rissotto – the european rice. That’s just awful.

  2. ImportJap says:

Kind of like a Exec with an HSV bodykit.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they removed the black on the sides.

  3. All cars says:

Thats a disgusting wannabe. I call this RICE!

  4. Ross says:

I must agree – wrong wrong wrong!

Leave the R8 looking bits to the R8 please!! It is blasphemous putting parts onto a lowly TT to make it appear like an R8!!

  5. Bavarian Missile says:

A bit like Posh Spice from a distance, sort of elegant and maybe even be someone famous and beautiful, then you get close up and realize, nope all fake and no class!

  6. Captain Mainwaring says:

I think I;m going to be sick.

  7. jct says:

I think it looks alright :-)
i think if any of you guys
    were offered it that you
    wouldn’t say no ha ?
    it is an AUDI remember
    and a TT isn’t a bad ride :-)

  8. jbot says:

Jct, I’d take a regular TT over this anyday. It would very embarrasing driving a TT dressed up as a R8.

  9. supercujo says:

I’d rather have a new STi than that TT… that is how bad that looks.

  10. Bavarian Missile says:

Your right I would sell it and buy something real!

  11. Redeu says:

Actually… this is probably how the new R4 will look… :D

  12. audiman says:

I think it looks pretty good, and would take it over a stock TT anyday…Not sure though if its worth paying the extra nine thousand pounds for though…

  13. David says:

Aftermarket body mod complete with drill holes & adhesive residues.$20,000 for plastic, wheels exhaust & suspension kit? You must be joking.
Reminds me of Kenny Everitt’s rendition of a Hollywood hopeful interviewed re a porn film.

“but Michael it was all done in the very best taste”

  14. wheelnut says:

it’s the same as the owner of a $20k ES lancer trying to make his ride look like a $60K Evo; or a basic BA XT Falcon look like a GT or an Exec look like a HSV GTS.

However; with a bit more work to the front and rear end + a decklid you could get it to look like a mini-veyron

  15. george says:

yucky, the real thing or nothing

  16. Jason says:

Actually, you can buy a 2004 phaeton W12 for $20,000 , swap the engine out and have it be faster than an R8.

  17. jonny says:

Can I buy this Audi TT tuned like an R8 in Australia yet? Or can I pay a dealer / someone to tune it?

    thx in advance for replies
