Next-gen Honda CR-X
A few weeks ago we discussed the Honda CR-Z concept as the next potential candidate for the next-generation CR-X, as of today, we can take out the potential bit with confirmation from Japan.
There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the CR-Z, most importantly, no one knows what hides beneath the bonnet. Honda says it’s a hybrid powerplant, which makes us think it’s a similar system to the one used in the Civic Hybrid, but that could potentially fail to live up the CR-X’s reputation.
Rumours from Tokyo suggest the CR-X will run on a tuned 1.3-litre hybrid unit borrowed from the Civic hybrid. Power is expected at around 88kW but with an enormous 363Nm of torque, all of this while using just 3.5 litres per 100km!
The rumours seem a little too good to be true considering the enormous torque figure, but considering electric motors are known to provide massive and instantaneous torque, it may just be true.

Oh please please, let those figures be true, this will be my next car when/if it comes here, it looks amazing, I love the centre mounted exhaust pipes.

The front looks a little odd, but the rear is nice. I don’t for a second imagine those figures to be true, that is just an insane amount of torque for such a small engine.

Massive massive torque. How will the car utilize it?

I’d image it would come from low end, and go all the way to the redline

Low end isn’t something I typically associate with Honda, but we’ll see.
I think all that needs revising is the ridiculously huge snout

It looks quite nice. Ive been waiting years for a new crx!! The original ones provide some of the best fun you can have in a car. As for the torque, its believable if they use electric motors and they provide max torque instantly which would be nice in a bigger people carrier or something but they would be better (especially with a CRX) to keep to petrol with lots of power and high revs and keep the car weight down. The CRX needs a frenetic feel to it to be the spiritual successor to the original crx (genIII doesnt count as a proper crx, nice car but not the same). If they could keep the weight to no more than 1050kg (current clio sport weight – therefore realistic) then a revised 1.8litre type r engine from orininal Integra type r. I just dont believe you’ll get the excitement with a “torquey down low/nothing up top” drivetrain. I look forward to this car in anticipation though, please dont mess it up honda!!!

YES I agree scot, maybe if they had two versions a electric
Vote:version for the greenies out there, and a high revving
performance petrol version for people like us,,also would
give it more chance of sales success to have two models
of the same shape/chassis..The concept shape does look quite sporty so should sell well…

I hope honda brings back the crx, It would be nice if it resembled more like the out going crx of 1992 or 93. I like this rendition of the crx but I’m not to crazy of the front grille. Give it a more conservative front end something like the civic Si, and tail lights from a 90’s version crx. A crx si with 200 hp, and A type R crx with the type R engine for the enthusiasts, and hybrid technology for the rest. If honda does this I think they will have something really awsome for the masses. For me give me a crx Si or Crx Type R and I will be buying one. Alright honda it’s up to you bring it back, Keep it light , make it fun to drive, And you will have a hit, so go for it. Thank you

Curently I still own a 1988 Honda CRX HF and it runs like a champ, averaging 42 MPG @ 295,000 miles. Dear Honda, please, please, please give me a reason to buy a new car and send it to California. I dig the 2009 Fit and the CR-X, but choosing between the two would be a fun dilemma for choosing only one.

I like everything about the exterior of the car. I hope the interior isn’t final because the purple is ugly.
I drove a 92 Si hatch with a B16A power plant when I was in high school and loved it. I’ve always wanted to get a new hatch but Honda hasn’t offered much up in recent years which left me looking at the Rabbit. I might have to hold off if this car will be here soon.

@ CJ
I believe that the purple colour on the interior is a mistake. All of the other photos I’ve seen show it as a bright electric blue which I think actually look ok. Think soft neon blue style.
