Data Dot Technology goes DIY

I guess by now everyone has heard of Data Dot Technology and the benefits it can offer in terms of security for your car, bike or boat. But until now, this has only been available on new vehicles with Audi, BMW, HSV, FPV, Lexus, Lotus, Mini, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Subaru and Yamaha  already on board with their new vehicles in Australia.

For those of us who value our assets and would like the bonus of Data Dot Technology, the company who manufacturers this amazing technology now offers aftermarket Data Dots which can be applied yourself by means of a pressure pack applicator with the dot’s unique alpha-numeric code registered against your vehicle’s VIN, Engine or Chassis Number on their national database.

So, what is Data Dot Technology? Well, simply put, it’s a passive anti-theft security system which is supported by insurers, all Australian Police Forces (many using it on their own vehicles) and the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council and is applied as spray film invisible to the eye over the entire vehicle.

The spray contains millions of dots, each smaller than a grain of sand, which are etched by laser with a unique alpha-numeric code (which can be fully customised).

This code can only be read only with a special scanner that utilises a strong UV magnifier to read the code.

What it means in terms of theft is that should your vehicle become a victim of theft, any parts identified with Data Dots are then traced back to the owner, hopefully leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for authorities to find and identify thieves in the process. Chop shops look out!
