And here was thinking about buying a new Jeep Patriot in the next few months, but his news changes everything, why should I buy a new car that will not be made anymore and have no spare parts for it.
But this did happen to KIA not 10 years ago and they are still going and selling cars
Looks like Iam spending more weekends looking for a new car

richo, can you see the same thing happening to the good bits that Ford are flogging, or trying to flog, to venture capitalists?

I fear we've already seen the best Aston Martins, land Rovers and Jaguars. Anyone's welcome to correct me here, okay, cos I can't remember whether Jaguar and Volvo are included in this.

The thing is, these guys are or were part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group. If, as stand-alones, they no longer have access to Fiesta air-con vents and all of the other hundreds of shared components that we can't see and don't care about in cars, let alone not being able to piggy-back off the group's engine and platform developmental programs, how complete will their new models be in 2012?

when chrysler was sold by merceedes to a bunch of venture capitalists the writing was already on the wall. This was always going to happen. They will strip the company of everything that isnt profitable and see with what their left with. If its something of any value they will try and rebuild with a view to sell it down the track for a profit. If its something thats rubbish (which is the more likely option) they will probably end up selling off the brand names "dodge" "jeep" and "chrysler" to GM or some other major car company that think they can make good out of it

Chrysler Dodge aren;t the onlt ones in the position of 2 plants producing one plant worht of demand. More than half the GM and Ford plants in the USA are currently operating at less than 60% capacity [a number of which are making exactly the same cars] Therefore; it won;t be long before they do something similar inorder to survive.. either axe jobs, cars or both

However; If Chrysler Dodge want to remain in Oz they may have no choice but to export the Challenger or Viper as it appears that they're the only 2 cars left.. oh and the RAM Pick-Up. So it's not all bad.

Good riddance. As I said previously, the only good thing Chrysler had came from Daimler, and that's the highest point Chrysler will ever reach. Even then their styling is crap on all but the 2 models mentioned by Importjap, which are above average but not by a lot.

There's two cars that have made me stand up and take notice of Chrysler - the 300C and Crossfire. Everything else is dross.

Both those cars have great AMG internals I'm told, and perhaps it shows.
